Yeah my bad. I was surprised at this too. Wouldnt have thought he could have made the weight so easily and still look so good.
I'm intrigued by this fight. Though Alexander is a little smaller, he appears to be the more explosive puncher. Though Kimbo may not hit as hard, I'm sure he hits hard enough to knock Alexander out. I'm not impressed with the Mayweather mimicking mitt work I've seen Alexander doing recently. Mayweather is good in spite of his mitt work, not because of it. I believe Houston is going to have some difficulty with Kimbo's jab. I'm looking for Kimbo to use his jab to set Houston up for the knock out. I won't be making any large wagers with this prediction.
I used to be skeptical of Mayweathers mitt work until it was explained to me better. He uses it for different reasons than most, it's like his double end and speed bags in one sort of, it's more of a hand eye coordination thing. My explanation doesnt really do it justice; it's just different. I agree that it's not a great idea for Houston though; Mayweather he is not. I wonder what his total training consists of as a whole. I bet he is a hell of a powelifter, or could/used to be.
yeah why would he do that? the fight was at a catchweight of 215 lbs so why would he cut all the way down to 212? doesn't make sense
My guess is that he has no experience in cutting weight; he never did anything like wrestling or any other sport where you have to make weight before he started MMA, and he never fought MMA at anything below HW, so he probably just overdid it a little. Or maybe he didn't actually need to cut, as in cut off water weight that he wil later put back on, maybe he just lost the weight as part of a conditioning plan. Maybe he walks around at 212 now? It wouldn't be a bad idea for him, as he could cut to LHW.
Physically, he looks unbelievable. If he is 212, I would consider 205 if he could. I don't think he is particularly fast, strong or anything except maybe powerful. I do think he is very well co-ordinated. However, everything he learns is neutralised by his strategic stupidity. I think he has alot of skills, just not the mind to implement it. Maybe that is experience and he can improve on it. I know he is new to the game etc but then so is Brock, Saddolah etc
probably inexperience in cutting weight, also reminds me of when anderson fought thales leites I think it was and he weighed in at 182 lbs :huh
I wouldnt make too much of the extra 3lbs. Kimbo has great genetics and clearly a very good metabolism judging by his physical conditioning. A cut to 205 for Kimbo would be suicide. He clearly carries alot of good quality muscle mass that is actually quite sports specific. If he loses the extra weight he loses the tiny advantage that he has.
Losing 7 pounds of water weight would be absolutely easy for a 212lb man, alternately losing 20ish pounds of water weight if he hasn't lost some actual weight and still walks at 235 would still be easy. It would be well within the normal range for most 205 fighters. When a person "cuts" the day or two before the weigh in it means they just sweat off water weight, body fat has nothing to do with it.
Anyone notice how all of Kimbo's warm up has been grappling? Well, what they've been showing Spike TV that is. What are the chances he and his team plans of taking this to the ground?
