Another Review

Sicario - It really caught me off guard, I wasn't expecting much, but I was blown away. the cinematography is top notch, its haunting wide shots perfectly captures to bleakness of the situation they're in, so the look of the film serves as a metaphor somewhat. Its about the US governments sometimes underhanded measures we take in fighting the drug cartels out of Mexico, Benicio is cold hearted as hell and at the same time sympathetic, very understated, good performance, Brolin is getting more an more grizzled with every passing film, he's solid, Emily Blunt is the heart of the film, but she gets overshadowed somewhat by Brolin and Del Toro. It feels like a horror movie, the scope is bizarrely claustrophobic in its largeness similar to Dean Cundey's work in the films of John Carpenter, the score is Carpenteresque as well, it has the overall feel to the original Assault On Precinct 13. I loved it. *****
