Just went to cheer on a good good friend of mine, he was in a 100 mile off road marathon, started running at 6am, we were at the 75mile checkpoint and it was 10pm, we were waiting for him, was a pretty cool vibe. Up in the hills, was pitch black out and the stars were shining bright. There was a small fire for some of the runners who would come, and some staff and family would give them water and some chicken broth. You could see the runners coming out of the hills at night with their little head lamps. Was pretty cool. but then we heard a call come through to the people about how a runner couldn't go on.... turned out to be my friend, his legs and feet just couldn't do it anymore, last year he tore some tendons in his ankle, and his goal was to build his foot back up so that he could run well again. I guess between that, and some baaaad blisters on his feet, he couldn't keep going. He was 5 miles from the 75 mile checkpoint. When the sheriff brought him, and opened the doors, me n another buddy carried him to his family's vehicle. But my friend is a very proud person, and every aspect of not being able to continue, or even being able to walk at that point, was I know humiliating for him.... and as I was taking off his shoes so that they could check his blisters I could see he was fighting to hold his emotions back because he couldn't continue and everyone saw him not able to go on. Just sucked that it had to end like that, but personally, I feel he should be proud... he entered this thing and made me and all his family n friends proud as far as Im concerned. Just an interesting night all the way around. The 1st place runner is/was paced to finish the 100 miles somewhere from 16 to 17 hours.... Goodnight gang :good
