Funny.... leading up to the fight and prefight I was rooting for AJ, to see the torch get passed and to establish the next era in boxing. But as soon as round 5 happened and it looked like Wlad was going to get stopped I without thinking started cheering for Wlad lol... and was yelling my head off in round 6 for Wlad to finish him  Was gutted to see him lose but ironically he probably gained more respect and honor in this fight than in many many of his wins during his reign. ah man what a fight.

I'd like to see a rematch. Wlad had one defensive lapse that cost him. The ref also stopped it when no head shots landed in the final sequence.

This was an amazing fight for the sport. But ask yourself what is next for Joshua... He needs to work on the stamina and his head and body movement. Wlad is famous for his chin , just imagine if Joshua fought Povetkin or someone that can take a punch and have also a hard one.

Yeah, the comeback in round 5 and with that turnaround in the fight was great.
I was watching on Dutch tv (they don't have many live fights here, if at all), and the commentators were just saying he was done when the turnaround came. Then they thought it was over for Joshua right after. It was so surreal at the time and made this fight a great story. Then of course the fight turned around again in the championship rounds, with the eventual finish. If it wasn't clear to him before, it's probably clear to Joshua now that this was two levels up from what he faced before.

Some notes while watching the fight. These are going to be cringeworthy so I apologize. Nothing worse then some nobody trying to tell the professionals what they should and shouldnt have done while sitting on his ass watching it on tv. But.... I have to vent.

    * AJ needs to lose that muscle. His stamina was not elite (despite him getting a second wind. He was a dead man walking there for awhile) and that will cost him against the right opponent. Theres no need to be that muscular, and the wise thing would be to choose performance over vanity.

    * Wlad.... wlad wlad wlad. Without a doubt in my top 20 favorite fighters of all time, and yet the most frustrating fighter in the world for me to watch, maybe ever. Because he has all the tools to win, hes got all the experience to know what to do, and he is a smart guy who should know how to adapt in the ring.... but time, and time, and time again, I am left almost voiceless trying to yell loud enough for him to hear me on what he should be doing (that statement is armchair keyboard 'coaching' at its worst... I know. I cant help it, I feel Im right) (as the opposite, guys like Mayweather, Ward, I never find myself wondering why arent they doing this, why arent they doing that, they just know what to do and do it. Or when they find something that works, they stick to it)

Wlad successes came from the right hand. He had success after success with it. And yet its like he is charged $500,000 for every damn right hand he throws. He spent waaaaayyyy too much time after round 6 trying to land that leaping left hook... which caused breaks in the action due to him missing, AJ circling out, and time is ticking.... waiting, waiting, waiting for a right hand. Finally throws one towards the end of the round, has some success, goes back to pawing, waiting, leaping left hook that misses.

Had he committed to the right hand, I honestly think he gets AJ out of there. AJ was there to be taken Wlad just didnt fire the right hand enough. Also, Wlad spends way too much time trying to pinpoint an opening. Wlads power is so good that he needs to understand that he doesnt need a flush target. Throw that right hand towards AJ's neck, towards his inner shoulder, best case scenario its force glances off and still scores a glancing shot, but more importantly it imprints into the psyche of his opponent, gives you momentum, opens them up, and chips away at their durability.

Lastly. I couldnt believe my eyes when Wlad was getting rocked in the 11th round, repeatedly, and yet is backing away trying to dodge on the ropes instead of tying AJ up. Wlad.... lets be real, you clinch more then any fighter Ive ever seen. For a long time, your offense was basically punch grab. punch grab. And yet, when you are on the defensive, starting to get seriously rocked, guy is charging at you trying to take your head off, the actual time you should be clinching hard.... you try to dodge the punches? Damnit man.

That all being said, those are minor (well, not really minor considering I honestly think Wlad wins if he commits to a sharp cross) but that takes nothing away from the great night these two warriors provided. I think Wlad probably gained more respect and honor with that loss then he did in many of his wins in the eyes of 'the world'. I was genuinely proud of him tonight. Great stuff.

    sorry for the armchair rant.

Think if Manny was still around things might have gone different? Manny would have screamed at him to go for the KO in 7-8.

    I'm with you
My ranking and VCASH was on Wlad but I wanted AJ to go ahead and retire the guy and then the fight got HEATED....

Loved, loved and FKN loved this fight but yeah all your points are very valid

Quite possibly. But Joshua could also have done better in hindsight too.

Hard to say m'man. I know Manny would have been screaming at him but sometimes Wlad still does his own program. But it would have definitely helped his cause to at least have someone in his corner telling him the right things to do (of course this is just all in my opinion)

What frustrates me though is Wlad shouldnt need to be told that, at this stage. He should just know... Im having a lot of sucess with the right, Aj carries his lead low and he often cant move out of the way in time, conversely, I am having very little success with the left and its breaking the action and giving AJ time. Commit to the cross.

idk... Its all easy to say on the outside but thats just how I see it.
