As a few of you could have probably picked up on by now, I'm a really critical person sometimes unpleasantly so, that tends to dislike to full blown hate most newer films. And I was a comic book geek as a kid, so usually I find most of the comic book films being pumped out on a conveyer belt to be downright tedious and dull and trying way hard to be too hip and trendy to truly enjoy. The Marvel films, are time passers that I can barely remember a day later, they're vaguely compelling while their on, nothing sticks. So when I say a comic book film really grabbed me, and that I not only liked it, but loved it, that means they're really ****ing good. Because I have great taste. 2017 has given us, not 1 but 3 truly great comic book films, all 3 probably rocketing up to my Top 10 list of comic book films. Logan I saw a few months ago, it was by far the best film of the year for me so far, in general, it reminded me of the films of the 70's, almost like a Eastwood or Bronson Western/Road movie, but better acted. Its a masterpiece. Easily the best Wolverine and X-Men movie to date. But over the last few days I saw two more, I'm a little behind. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 was pure genius, loved and enjoyed every second of it thoroughly. Kurt Russell was badass, seeing Sylvester was badass, and the whole crew picked up where they left off and had even better chemistry this time around. And the French Asian chick that played Mantis was adorable. But the one that really impressed me, maybe because I went in with lowered expectations was Wonder Woman, the female Director Patty Jenkins deserves a shitload of credit for not browbeating the audience with SJW propaganda, and the typical Hollywood sermonizing, and delivered an old fashioned hero movie that was almost conservative in tone. Sure there's a little female empowerment stuff going on, but not distractingly so. Loved the WW1 and Greek Island settings, and all the weaving in of Greek mythology, which I've been a long time fan of in the storyline. And Gal Gadot is an incredibly good actress for a former model, that wasn't an easy role to pull off with conviction, but she did it impressively. So if you haven't already, check out all three.
Already have! Great movies. Loved Wonder Woman. Also Spiderman Homecoming was great (much better than the other two attempts). Will be seeing Thor this weekend and Justice League in 3 weeks!!!!!!
What about Dunkirk? I am about to watch it these days, love Christopher Nolans art! Also I feel like Guardians Of The Galaxy is not well understood in Europe. I didn't like the first part at all, the second one was way better than Vol. 1.
Haven't seen that one yet, I've had a hectic last few months and I'm just getting around to catching up on the movies I missed, not sure how interested I am in the Spider Man film, they're changing the lead actor way too much, I like Maguire okay, but I really liked Andrew Garfield, so I was kind of pissed he wasn't in this one, the new kid looks like a little douche and it reeks of PC Hollywood bull**** to me from the trailer. Maybe I'll force myself to watch it, at least it has Michael Keaton in it. Haven't seen that yet either, I'm sure I'm in the minority, but for the most part I can't stand Nolan's films, I liked Batman Begins and Dark Knight Rises, but was bored out of my skull at Dark Knight. I hate Memento, bored by Insomnia, thought Interstellar was decent, and found The Prestige and especially Inception tedious. But what the hell, maybe Dunkirk won't be that annoying. As far as GOTG goes, I can see why it may not translate, its very American in its sensibilities.
And a simple request, any of you guys that are watching Lethal Weapon the TV series, please stop watching it, its very existence gives me indigestion, the guy playing Riggs is a tool and is quite frankly an insult to the greatness and badassness of the character and the man who originally played it. So do yourselves a favor, watch the original film, and the sequel, and you'll feel the same way I do about the wretched shitbag TV series. This content is protected This content is protected
OK, Lord of the Rings 1 is done! It was ok, i liked it. 2 will be next week at some point. I cant promise i am going anywhere near the others. Sorry.
Part 2 is way better than the first, 1 was basically just the set up for the last 2 which are brilliant. Completely understandable, sometimes Horror is an acquired taste, thankfully, I'm bloodthirsty. So I've given the Horror genre plenty of money.
Actually @nellybc tbh, Horror never appealed to me because of the blood and guts, it was the atmosphere, the feel, the overall ambience. The stories in all those Universal and Hammer films, the monsters were always tortured mentally about what they were, there was none of this crap they do now days, trying to pathologize, make excuses or glorify the monsters for their actions.
