Though I like Ndongeni's skill set, I think Haney probably has enough size and speed to win the fight anyway. I do think the South African represents a nice step up for the Dream. Not an easy fight to take at this stage in his career.

Oh, and I believe you can still change any time before the fight.

I just think Haney has had zero questions asked of him by a high-level pure boxer. Menard couldn't be any more custom-built & gift-wrapped for someone like Haney to shine against. Likewise the version of MiniBurgos he beat was running on about 60% of his prime engine, and was stylistically again not that hard a puzzle to solve.

I'm surprised that literally nobody else is going for Ndongeni, especially with the Daredevil picks being incentivized here.

While I'm not entirely convinced Haney is the wunderkind he's being billed as, I don't hold a negative view of him either, he's got the goods, and I think he's a genuine talent, who's more than capable of dismantling all of the pretenders and B-level guys at 135, while struggling with the Commey's and Easter's and losing to the Loma's and Garcia's. But I can't see a guy like Ndongeni giving him too many issues, when the one step up in your career is Mzonke Fana, and you struggle, that sends up a huge red flag IMO.

I haven't seen that fight, but the footage I have seen he looks to pass the eye test. Haney does a hell of a lot of showboating and looks honestly bored in all these stylistic mismatches. If he ever sparred hard with really skilled boxers, I'm not sure the muscle-memory of that will come to fore after lapsing into so many lazy habits against come-forward goons for so long.

    Timing > speed/athleticism.

I haven't seen it either, the only one I've seen was his match against Mendez, who while a decent opponent, nothing extraordinary, and not hard to look good against. Ndongeni looks awkward enough, has decent timing, and isn't the easiest to hit clean, but I think Haney's got decent timing as well, and solid defense on the front foot and the backfoot, so while Ndongeni may give him a few issues early, he'll figure him out in 2 or 3 rounds... and let's be honest, without a KO, Ndongeni won't win on the cards, even if he wins 8 or 9 rounds.

I get the same kind of cognitive dissonance vibe here as when, years ago, 99.999999999999% of everybody was 99.999999999999% certain that Felix Verdejo was a future p4p #1, and I was the lone voice in the wilderness that was like, "mm...nah..." :nusenuse:

Like, yes, I see what people like about Haney but there are still a LOT more questions for him to answer (starting with this Xolani test) before I'm even setting one toe aboard the SS Carried Away.
