Those of you thinking that Wladimir would stand no chance against Tyson need to go back and watch Tyson's fights against tall jabbers. Many of them gave Tyson fits and if any of them had actually had power, Tyson would not have had his first defeat to Buster Douglas (another tall jabber). Tyson was a monster puncher yes, but Wladimir has all the skills necessary to defeat a prime Tyson. Not only that, Peter has longer arms, is significantly taller than Iron Mike and unlike a prime Tyson, Peter throws punches the back of the head.
He wasn't out of shape...he had been training to fight a live, undefeated fighter in kirk Johnson. He just came in with an ill advised fight plan. He came into the fight trying to be the aggressor. That is not Lennox's strongpoint. He has never been an effective aggresor. When he realized that Vitali was a tough SOB, it threw him off of his fightplan. But, he wasn't out of shape...hogwash!!
The condescending manner in which Klitschko fans approach this subject is amusing. They dismiss people's reasons for not liking them with psycho-analysis. I respect hard work and don't think they need to be 'trashy'. Lennox wasn't 'trashy' and I liked him just fine. I just don't find their fights exciting and the fact they preside over such a weak division with their fan(atics?)s proclaiming them champs, when they're really just belt holders, is all the more annoying. I'm reserving judgement on these apparent clauses K2 want written into a Wlad/Haye contract because I'm not privy to the exact details of said contract. If true, however, it makes the Klitschko team somewhat hypocritical. Especially given as they're always held up as being the benchmark of integrity.
Exactly. There is no way on earth he was out of shape. He was probably in the best shape that he could have been in. If I recall correctly, he had trained at altitude for the Johnson fight and had actually completed some kind of grueling mountain run that he had never been able to finish before while training. He was in extremely good shape. Lennox basically underestimated Vitali's will to win and willingness to stand and trade. Although Vitali got busted up in that fight, Lennox was the one who looked defeated and extremely worried at the end of the final round because basically, he was spent.
You like Lewis just fine and think Klitschko fights are boring? What? Yeah, lewis was never attached to any boring fights!! Both Holyfield fights and the Tua fight were barnburners!!:good
Oh will you please give up with this? He was clearly not in tip top condition, what was his weight again? Not an effective aggressor? His fights against Grant and Golota, among others, belie the truth in that statement. Also, given the damage Vitali sustained to his face, I'd say his aggression was fairly effective on that pearticular night in question.
Vitali/Peter. A come back from 4 years off to beat a big puncher also by winning made boxing history of brothers HW champion at the same time. That will be remember for ever :happy:hi:
You can use all the emoticons and exclamation marks you like, it just shows you're unable to converse on an intellectual level. Nearly all fighters have been involved in stinkers.
Again, sorry to be a pedant, but they're not simultaneous champions. They are simultaneous belt holders.
Peter is nowhere near as skilled and nowhere near as quick as a prime Tyson. The comparison is laughable.
Every fight analyst that has ever spoken of Lewis's strongpoints as a fighter, including his trainer, has mentioned the fact that Lennox has never been an effective agressor. You mention Grant and Golota...please. Dominick Guinn would look like an effective aggressor against both of these guys. Watch his fights. He was very good at neutralizing his opponents with his jab and then catching them as they would come in. That is Lennox Lewis!
