headgear and age. Plus most AM's arent going to be serius punchers.. if they were then they would be pros.

headgear and the fact that when it comes to punches landed, it's about quantity, not quality, so fighters are less inclined to punch with KO power, electing instead to pitty pat.

Perhaps that you are fighting 3/4 rounds rather than 10/12?

A lot of stoppages and KO's come when someone is tired and making mistakes or getting beat on down the stretch.

ONLY 3 rounds is the biggest reason....also Glove size and Head gear

My amateur record was 16-4 (16KO's). I had to fight some pretty tough guys out of the DMV area (178lbs). I would be on the path to losing on points to some guys and they would start showing off and I'd punch with them resulting in a one punch KO.

Thirteen of those KO's were via right hand. I started boxing late, that's why I turned pro with few fights.

Fight length (much shorter), age (your average 28 year old punches harder than your average 18 year old), and the style of fight. Amateurs it's all about quantity, not quality.

Has nothing to do with the glove size, has nothing to do with the head gear, usually there are 2 min rounds, unless your advanced/experienced and only 3 of them at that.
The gloves do not matter, the head gear does matter as that doesnt protect your chin, its simply a matter of time most amateurs do not go in there for the Kayo they look to work for three rounds assuming the fight will go the distance there for they know to work combos and score as much and as often as you can 6 mins goes by quick even say your in a four round bout at 3 mins per round that is only 12 mins your not going to knock out everybody especially in the amateurs

Some people may be unhappy about the scoring in the ameteurs and exaggerates a bit. I didn't see a jab being scored as a point in the olympics. If that were the case why would a boxer throw anything else as that is the safest punch to throw?

Also, why doesn't the headgear protect the chin? The padding goes all the way down the side.

The padding covers your ears the rest below that is a strap that fastens under your chin no padding on the chin Head gear does not protect you from getting dropped headgear is basically there for the parents

    Why?

The 2008 Ring Magazine that rated the 10 hardest punchers in the world, I was number 7.
