Were the announcers stating he was slowing down, lol? They were all over his nutsack right until the shock KO.
I had it 4-2 Kovalev going into the 7th. Rounds were competitive outside of the one were Kovalev was teeing off on him.
When I watched it back he looked comfortable but in danger...You could tell Alvarez was going to stop him, he kept getting the odd clip and it was visibly registering
I think he should consider retirement. He took a lot of damage to the head in that fight, it was a very violent stoppage. His heart doesn't appear to be in the sport anymore.
He should take a rematch, and if he wins that, try to get Stevenson in the ring. He has no business fighting the up and coming fighters at 175 though. Or he could travel to Germany and cash out against Huck.
I don't think he was clearly ahead. It was competitive. I had it 57-57, but Sergey had the momentum up until the first knockdown.
Kovalev doesn't deserve a rematch after getting viciously knocked out. Why should Alvarez hold up his career even more than it has. He needs to push or bigger fights in the division.
He was winning on the official judges cards, but if you watched the fight a real case can be made the fight was dead even leading up to the KO. There was nothing clear about Kovalev being ahead if you were watching the fight impartially.
It seems to be a stamina issue with Kovalev. If you look at him at the beginning of the 6th round you could tell something was wrong.
He was snapping Kovalev's head back like a ****ing Pez dispenser with that ramrod jab from the opening bell.
Yeah that jab and bodywork from Alvarez is what was wrong, Kovalev didn't suddenly tire on his own Alvarez snapping his head back with that jab, and those big body shots every round had quite a bit to do with him tiring.
