Kovalev vs Cleverly for the WBO LHW strap.

That's probably because of the expectation that if Kovalev is the better in a large number of rounds, Cleverly probably won't reach the final bell. And if Cleverly makes it competitive enough to survive he'll probably get the nod.

So either Kov by KO, or Clev by decision if he reaches the end of the 12th

 

I absolutely agree that we need to wait before slinging accusations around, but whichever way it falls I think it was a bad call on the part of the WBO to appoint a British ref, especially one who has a history of controversial decisions. An English speaking ref is obviously desirable, but what about an Australian or Canadian, even a yank since Kovalev's Russian despite being based in the States.

+1. Bad move. Even if completely innocent, it will still give rise to suspicion and accusations.

I have put real money on Kovalev by stoppage although I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Cleverly can eek out a decision as I do rate him quite highly (and he has a god chin) and if it goes the distance the hometown advantage might see it his way if it is close. I just think Kovalev is wrong for Cleverly stylistically as he tends to get hit too much by inferior boxers and it is a big step up for him. I can see it going to the trenches and Cleverly not being able to stand up to Kovalev's power to bring it to the late rounds and test his stamina. I think both will be game and I'm really looking forward to the fight.

I get your point but Che was never really a Soviet style communist anyway, more a professional revolutionary fighting against the oligarchical tyrannies that existed (and still exist) in South and Central America, a bit like a latter day Bolivar.
Thing is, any revolutionary activity at that time was branded 'communist' - when most of it was simply poor people fighting for their rights and recognition.

In any case, wearing a Che t-shirt does not make one a communist , in fact I believe it's a requirement for every university student in the world to own one.

 

That's one of the reasons I'm so high on this fight. Usually you kinda know, or at least have a good idea, how the fight's gonna go. This time, although I'm going with Kovalev, I really don't have a clue how it's gonna play out. So long as the fight isn't marred by dodgy reffing or a bad decision I would be happy with any outcome. For both guys it's the biggest fight of their careers, and both bring something the other hasn't faced before. My only regret is that I can't make it down to Cardiff tonight.
