Just here to weight in on the crowd in the arena - I was there live (impartial fan here - traveled from Ireland to watch the fight because of its significance) and it was a very pro-ward crowd in the arena, went to a race track the next day and bumped into a couple who had traveled from the bay who came to watch ward

Listen to the crowd. You think Kovalev fans would be chanting S.O.G.?

There is no 'contract'. That is the way it isn't for every single PPV. The destributors get half. Same for UFC etc. I don't think you quite understand this.

They were rooting for the Home guy against the Russian, but dont believe the addition of Kovalev as his opponent had nothing to do with the increased attendance and people who watched.

Stop with the ward cant sell out in oakland of course the oracle has over 20,000 sits to fill ward does an average of 8,000 to 10,000 & this is amongst the raiders, A's & golden state warriors

Kov is a fun fighter to watch but hes just a average tv draw right now maybe with this fight he will become a bigger draw

You'll need to stop making ward somehow the face of none marketability or low ticket sells when its PLENTY of notable boxers that sells far less than him

Hell i would say 95 percent of the American born boxers today thats active that you'll love arent drawing more than ward even in their own home town

For year's ward has been a punching bag for sopposedly not being a draw & not being able to draw flies

But yet boxing a whole doesnt draw flies no more the ppv numbers are down the hbo numbers laughably down of course this is just amerca

Sportscenter and most of all sports media can give a damn about boxing & mayweather vs macgregor is the the only topic of discussion at the moment

So the people who paid to see the fight live were just going for the home guy, and weren't fans of Ward at all?

Maybe they were, but I believe Kovalev made that event better than it would have been.

Pretty much what I expected and the rematch would likely do worse, which is terrible since Ward's price should logically go up so I don't know how they are even going to fund this event now.

I can actually confirm that he's right. I've heard the exact same thing from boxers, promoters, other media, etc. It isn't just for boxing.

Mayweathers first ppv did around 350,000 & this was around the time when ppv was averaging 500,000 or probably way more...

Ward vs kov 2 will do alot better...

    You gotta start from somewhere...

Hell bradley has even been apart of some major ppvs & he has no fans!!!

    NONE!!!

If ward & ggg continue to win that fight will be massive!!!

PPV need to get into the digital age. Take advantage of platforms like YouTube have YouTube do front page advertising for the fight. Put the PPV on YouTube and charge half the price. I guarantee they will see much better figures.

YouTube already have technology to handle over 1 million simultaneous viewers. They don't even need to build it. They just need to use it as a distribution platform.

Boxing is on the down slope and less people are tuning in to even free boxing fights. Both Kovalev & Ward are not household names... but McGregor and Roudsey are. That's why the UFC is crushing boxing. They also stack their cards, while we get ridiculous robberies from mediocre fights like Hooker/Perez.

Boxing need to open itself up and start considering different distribution platforms that's fit for 2016, soon to be 2017.

partly fallout from May-Pac debacle and partly everyone knows Ward tries to make his fights as boring as possible. he's a legend in his own mind though, and in a few cracked heads from Oakland.
