I hope It broke even. Or close to It at least, just for the sake of rematch.

What did he say exactly that got u so offended that u called him a joke ?
    He just stated facts

Then again nobody even remotely claimed that Kov was ever a draw. I mean the guy made his fatest checques in Canada, and could never sell many tickets in US. Nobody said otherwise. And, as 3 belt holder got treated as B Side But many people said that after Floyd retired Andre Ward will be the face of boxing. And that is far from ever happening

Exactly!!! Kovalev isn't a big draw either and yet guys are criticizing Ward for the PPV being a flop! That's why I call guys jokes! If you want to make a thread about why the PPV numbers for the fight were so low then include Kovalev into conversation of criticism as well!

Don't think it made a profit. This is just my rough estimate.

    PPV sales, 160k @ $64 = 10.2 million
Gate ( couldn't find the number but doesn't look like it sold out the 19k seat) I'll guess around 13k so probably 3 million in gate

    I'm guessing 13 million total.

    HBO takes 5% = 650,000
    Cable/Sat takes 45%= 5,900,000
    Promotor gets 45% = 5,900,000

Purse was close to 7 million.
Add another 1 million for undercard and production cost.

So cost to produce the fight was 8 millions. promoter made 6 million.

Not sure how this will play in rematch. Neither guy can sell PPV.

SOB is a very dirty fighter, he did not fight, he just held, wrestled, tried to head butt, elbow, etc., Kovalev will knock the cheat out in the rematch, however, Ward is trying to get out of the rematch................rematch is clearly legal though............

No way to spin it, that is horrible. I thought they'd get at least 300,000. Main Events and especially Roc Nation paying Ward $5 million lost a lot of money on the event. How can they justify putting the rematch on ppv? HBO needs to get out of the ppv business and commit to boxing only on HBO. Even for Canelo, who if he can sell on ppv should get 2 million+ on HBO. Get fights on at least every two weeks, get more creative with live boxing on streaming services, get every boxing fan subscribed, etc. We're not being duped by ppv anymore.

Not all his fault but its an American fighter in America, on American time (prime time viewing) so really it is Ward who should bring the numbers.

So a Russian in the US should take equal blame? A Russian should be selling equally with an Amercian in the US? If you believe that then you are the joke my friend.

Ward is a very good fighter but he is not a star, thats all people are saying, a career this long, a unbeaten record and he still cant generate numbers, thats all.

Lee vs Jacobs would do bigger numbers than Golovkin, Ward and Kov can do.

It's sad but the best boxers in the world currently have zero personality and are boring as sheeeeet.

Joshua, Parker, Golovkin, Ward, Kov, Gonzalez, Mayweather, Paq - all these people are boring.

sadly Floyd vs Pac fiasco destroyed the ppv business in boxing even Canelo can draw ****. The golden era of De la Hoya, Trinidad, and then Pac, Cotto and Floyd are over. Floyd bad fights ruined the casual fan attraction. They now prefer man hugging each other in UFC and Wrestling.

So by your logic people should stop saying that 3G did better numbers in England when he fought Brook! This nonsense about home country is all bullsh#t.With all the multi media these days people know of boxers from all around the globe and can follow practically anyone they choose! And nowhere did I say that Kovalev should share equally in the blame, now did I. If you have been following boxing you should know that the right opponent can make or brake a PPV. I just think it's wrong to say that the PPV flop is all Wards fault! And if you believe that it is, then you are the joke!
