You know your stuff;Superbad Mays wa probably the ultimate Kronk legend. He supposedly broke Tommy Hearns' nose before the '76 Olympic Trials. As far as I know,he and Emanuel Steward had a falling out-and Bernard didn't fight for Kronk as a pro.I think at one point,Ring had him rated in the top 10 at 160.A sad story;the last I heard of him fighting,a local Detroit referee said he thought Mays looked like damaged goods in a fight he was favored to win easily, but barely squeaked out.
I think places like the Kronk centre should have been saved, it produced some of the most incredible fighters in the history of the modern era... I had a friend fight out of there who was never granted much credit but was a very tough man, he sparred with most of Don Kings heavyweights in the 90's but was really only a 180 pounder.. his name was Aundrey Nelson, he was one of Mike Moorers homeboys, they were realy tight .. even when i went to a Warriors event in Coconut creek , seminoles Florida, Moorer was in our dressing room after the fight congratulating us of a win and Aundrey was right there with him.. some special guys, Boxing is an incredible game. God bless..
