He did not talked about age. Price is almost 30 Mitchell is 30... Age is not the question. The more important question are skills of the fighter. Pulev has good reflexes and pretty fast feets for a big fighter like him and a solid chin. This is more defense than Price, Mitchell or Wilder have. Much more. It makes no sense at all that guys like Mitchell or Price (who will get KOed again when he faces TT) (LOL) are still there in 5 years and a good fighter like Pulev not. No sense at all.
He wasn't really a classical inside fighter imo. He is a counter puncher that will get inside your punches then counter you at mid range but he doesnt really stay inside or want to. He get into mid range lands his counters and steps back out or around. This has already been said in this thread and its very untrue. He doesn't use much side to side head movement to slip punches but instead he pulls his head back out of range to make your punches fall short, usually while using his footwork to take that half step back at the same time. Similar to what Vitali does and sometimes similar to Chambers the way they pull back at the waist. This tactic along with his ability to control range using his feet makes his head very elusive.
A thread by derrick on a heavyweight... No doubt meant to diminish Pulev's value after he eventually loses to Wlad should they fight.
Yep - that's correct. A lesser version of Kingpin in that respect , as Johnson is almost Mayweather-esque with his Philly Shell defence (and in fact trained by a Mayweather). Pulev is, respectfully more crude and less sophisticated than Chambers and Johnson, with this technique and even against plodders like Ustinov and Skelton got tagged heavily. Kingpin is almost impossible to hit flush and has never even been wobbled.
The only comparison i was using to Chambers was the way they lean back at the waist to make a punch fall short occasionally. Pulev's defense is nothing like Johnson and TPS. You could say Pulev's main defense is using his footwork to control distance and pull out of range. The second facet to that is leaning back with his head/upperbody to assist in making your punches fall short if his feet haven't quite got him out of range in time. It is very comparable to Vitali's defensive style in that it relies mainly on reflexes and improvisation (along with his hands down style jabbing from the hip)
well if he isnt that good then wlad or vitali should fight him/ so they can get thier asses kicked:hey
It's almost like Derrick is trying to convince himself that Pulev is a terrible fighter. I mean why else get so emotional and drawn to it if he truly believed Pulev is irrelevant? Ive seen pulev's fights, and he has some serious skills. Idc if u dont believe it or not. Let's all simply wait for the Pulev - Fury fight and then we will be 100% sure on who the better fighter is.
I don't doubt it. Derrick is probably the only hater on this site who is quite literally seething with fiery hatred for a professional fighter who doesn't even know he exists, and he's been at it for years.
