LAMPLEY'S Advice for KIRKLAND: Go GHETTO on Him...!!!

But Kirkland is what you'd call 'ghetto', he was arrested for armed robbery. It would have been a racist comment if if were about Audley Harrison or Lennox Lewis, who I as far as I know have no criminal convictions between them, but it was about James Kirkland.

 

But I wouldn't categorize anyone as "ghetto", because it implies the poor have certain general characteristics about them. When Lampley is telling him to go "ghetto", he is telling him to get wild and violent, as if being black and from a rough area means that you're like that by default. Get me? I understand where you're coming from because Kirkland's marketing strategy is centered around him being a product of the ghetto, but that doesn't make it OK for a white man who has made his living wearing a tuxedo for decades to tell viewers that a black man "going ghetto" means becoming wild and violent.

It's not a huge deal, but it's not something people like for a reason.
