You seldom fight anyone who doesnt think that..Unless their knowledge of boxing isnt outside the rings top 10 p4p for that month.

My feelings too, Im sick of seeing Greb & Langford on these lists, there is 0 footage of Greb & from the quality of the Langford footage, there may aswell be 0 footage of him too.

Im not saying they should be forgotten but c`mon guys, you never know for sure until you see with your own eyes.

How many times have you read about a fight/fighter then watched that fight/fighter & wondered if the writer was on drugs ?

    Exactly !

Well I'm a novice, only been following boxing since 1959.
No I haven't seen footage of Greb in action ,but I have seen footage of
    Tunney
    Walker
    Loughran
    Gibbons
    Brennan.
    Some of Greb's adversaries.
You have your opinion,I have mine.

Well that's too bad that you're sick of seeing them on these lists, because their resumes more than speak for themselves.

Greb's rating, for me at least is based on him having 299 fights and winning 261 with 18 draws ,over half of them while blind in one eye and in many conceding considerable weight. We are not talking about victories over ham and eggers either ,but wins over the likes of
    Allentown Joe Gans
    Maxie Rosenbloom
    Mickey Walker
    Gene Tunney.
    Augie Ratner
    Tiger Flowers
    Frank Moody
    Bryan Downey
    Johnny Wilson
    Romero Rojas
    Tommy Loughran
    Jimmy Slattery
    Battling Levinsky
    Bill Brennan
    Billy Miske
    Leo Houck
    Soldier Bartfield
    Eddie McGoorty
    Al McCoy
    Tommy Gibbons
    Mike Gibbons
    Jack Dillon
    Mike O Dowd
    George Chip
    Wille Meehan
    Frank Mantell
    Gun Boat Smith
    Lou Bogash
    Buck Crouse
    Bob Roper
    Jeff Smith
    Zulu KId
    Charley Weinert
    Jack Blackburn
    Kid Norfolk
    Bartley Madden
    Soldier Jones
    Jack Renault
    Bob Moha
    Mike McTigue.

Several men held versions of titles ,several were rated heavyweight and LH contenders, several went on to become ATG's . I ask the Forum where should we place a man who has a record such as this?

    So what ?

I dont think knocking people out is the only criteria for being an ATG.

If ko ratio was the main criteria for rating a figther an all time great, where would we place ?
Willie Pep less than 27% ko
    Tommy Loughran under 10% Ko
MIguel Canto less than 21% Ko
I guess these guys were just journeymen.

How can you knock there records or them just because of the lack of footage ?, look at there records guys, i mean they were awesome and guys like greb beat everybody nearly.

I mean does not having footage of say the roman army as a silly example mean for you they cant be any good because you have not seen them ?, hell no would be the right answer.

The lack of footage of Greb is unfortunate but a non-issue when ranking him IMO.

As said before there is enough footage available of the guys he beat, sometimes multiple times..Anyone who has seen these guys in action knows it would take someone quite special to beat them.

 I haven't heard this argument for ranking fighters on no tv footage before, but it's strangely persuasive ha ha!!

Personally, I have Langford a whisker ahead of Greb because his weight-jumping was better.

I have Langford at #2 or #3 OAT and Greb #4.

It honestly wouldnt make a jot of diference to me how good or bad they looked on film.

Their resumes are just so far ahead of the rest of the field that it is academic.

Langford was the greatest pound for pound fighter that ever lived .
