I think if Holmes can avoid getting caught early, the momentum shifts, and by round 6-7, he's mostly dominating, circling and jabbing at will, firing off the straight right when he gets a chance. That might stop 70's George, not sure. It definitely wouldn't stop old man George. has this thread discussed how old man Holmes vs old man George would have gone? it was such a loss to boxing history that one didn't happen. both were still dangerous in their mid 40s. would have been the greatest old man battle that has ever occurred, whatever happened.
I am bothered by the widespread belief on this forum that Jimmy Young came anywhere close to "schooling" Foreman. George really wasnt a fan favorite in the first part of his career and it shows in this fight as well as others...the crowd was chanting for Young every time he threw a flicking jab that George parried and slipped. One of the biased commentators even gave him the 7th round lmao. I had George ahead on the cards after six. Then he almost killed Jimmy in the seventh and blew his wad. Jimmy then won rounds 8, 9 and 11 and going into the twelth I had the fight even. Jimmy barely won a decision fighting the fight of his life and this is against a geriatric George who was dragged to the desert. Zaire Foreman clobbers him in 5, and in neutral weather even the George of that night would have gotten a decision.
I’d favor Holmes but his weakness for right hands and tendency to get careless would make it a perilous affair.
Eh ... Ill have to go with Holmes here ... Although I prefer Foreman as a fighter but Holmes seems to be the one guy Foreman would struggle with ...
He fought Like a geriatric od what I meant. The story is that one of Georges cornermen was urging him to take it slow and it backfired. Whatever the reason was, we can all see that George was way too pedestrian for no good reason ..Young didnt have the strength or power to keep George off him.
