This one was posted a while back in high quality - glad to see it’s back.

All big fights deserve this treatment. How about whoever did this one doing the FOTC next?

Improving picture quality is great, adding nonexisting frames isn't improving (this is a different topic). But it's better if we have all old classics mastered in image, no matter how.

This fight provides one of the best exemplifications of Holmes jab. Beautiful.

This match called in the best of both worlds - a cerebral boxing match and a slugfest all in one.

I like Norton personally but assess him objectively.

He was short of great but not by a lot - essentially he didn’t quite have the chin to match the likes of Ali and Holmes but wasn’t wanting much if at all in other regards.

And as Ali could say of Frazier, Holmes could say of Norton, who brought out one of the very best performances in Holmes - who admitted that his title defences thereafter were relative cakewalks.

Imo, Norton was the real deal, not just a lucky, stylistic nightmare who happened to give hell to not just one, but TWO ATG HW Champs at the very high end - TWO ATGs who weren’t similar enough in style to water down Ken’s achievements as if to suggest Norton was only good for giving major trouble to the same type of fighter in terms of their style (viz Ali and Holmes).

Muhammad and Larry were different enough to afford mucho and separate credit to Norton for his individual performances against each man.

"Larry you're so skinny and ugly anybody looks good next to you."

Also this fight, Norton was introduced first even though he was the WBC champion.

Last two times I've watched this fight was in old school quality, and then in the 60 FPS. I've had Holmes winning by 1 point 1st time, and 2 points the 2nd time, scoring the 13th round a 10-8 round for Holmes 2nd time surprisingly.

One of the most enjoyable high speed technical marvels to watch, this is why Larry Holmes is my favourite Heavyweight of all time. Weaver 1, Witherspoon, Norton, those are the creme de la creme of Heavyweight fights.

This was an all-time classic fight. It really should have been the Ring's Fight of the Year for 1978
rather than Spinks vs Ali 1.

Norton went hard on Larry verbally - calling him Neanderthal Man. Nasty. Ali also went hard, calling Larry Peanut head. Equally nasty. But, whenever poor Larry allegedly "misspoke", even in due reciprocation, it was as if he was the worst guy in the world.

A travesty that Spinks vs Ali 1 won FOTY which was mostly a boring fight until the last round, i would also of had Marvin Johnson vs Matthew Saad Muhammad 1 over Foreman vs Young for FOTY in 1977.

Love this post. Yes it is often forgotten that Ken gave two all time greats great battles. Ali was still a great fighter albeit slightly faded and Holmes was coming into his best ever form.

Because Larry wasn't a wordsmith, wasn't funny, wasn't good at that sort of thing, yet tried anyway. It isn't fair, but that's why he got ****. He'd have been off just shutting up and being polite. "Sure thing, Norton. I'll let my performance in the ring speak for me."
