Larry Holmes Vs Kevin "Kingpin" Johnson

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by WelcomePaladin2, Nov 10, 2015.

  1. Serious thread!

Does kingpin have it in him to cause the upset. Going by the Kingpin that gave Vitali fits, I say YES.

Larry had the best jab in boxing history. Period. But kingpin is good at manoeuvring himself into positions to throw the body shot followed by the left uppercut. Almost tysonesque.

If he has a competent trainer in his corner & follows this game plan, I think he stops Holmes before we hear the bell to start the 5th round.

    Thoughts!

An all-time great heavyweight against a slow, lazy, out of shape plodder.

    The question itself is ridiculous.

    Kingpin UD or late KO.

  7. Listen, I think Holmes is one of the most underrated heavyweights of all time.

But KingPin has the style IMO. He has a granite jaw & had never been stopped until recently against Dillian Whyte but he was fat, ancient & unmotivated.

I think he can literally walk through Holmes shots and dish out damage of his own.

Larry could beat him NOW, nevermind the hypothetical time-warp matchup.

  9. I seen Larry throw a few of his trademark jabs on ringside special a few years back. Still was majestic to watch.

Yeah what a jab Holmes had. So fast, accurate and punishing.

Larry could ride a scooter out of the nursing home
and KTFO "Kingpin" with a few jabs!!

    Johnson is a cooked goose...

but he can pad lots of other heavyweight records
    and keep making $$$!!

    :hey

Larry Holmes was claimin that Kevin Johnson was gonna beat Tyson Fury

    Is he insane?

  14. Well said Terry, even Larry recognises Kingpins talents.

Kingpin ends Larry in the 4th, and that's not disrespecting the Easton assassin as he is one of my favourites.

Johnson had exactly two good things about him, things he could do pretty well compared with most: jab & Philly shell.

The latter was maybe 12% as good as that of true masters of the Philly shell (Toney, Mayweather) and the former was maybe 0.000001% of Holmes'.

    ...and Holmes was actually versatile.

    This is a grotesque mismatch.
