It's called getting old. Holyfield wasn't completely "shot" (which implies nothing left) but he was definitely "over-the-hill" (meaning irreversibly past his prime). Holyfield's "off nights" in the mid 90s happened because he was over-the-hill. Holyfield's decline started around '93 or '94, clearly. Some would say earlier.
