Larry stops him late. Too much offensive arsenal with good defense and Bowe's right hand is just no enough. Bowe continues to be the most overrated modern on this board. This humors me to no end.
larry holmes decision or late tko.he would make bowe look slow as **** from the outside.jabs and rights all night long.
Holmes' style would be terrible for Bowe. Any fighter that can move, and give Bowe angles can beat him, providing they've got a good chin,of course. If a fat,old and past it version of Tony Tubbs can take a prime Bowe to a near photo finish, then think about what a peak Holmes could do. Bowe would be tough enough to last the distance, but would lose by a fair number of points.
don't know how you can overrate holmes ?? i think almost everyone here has him in a top 5 spot. and not only here. almost everywhere you read on him or see lists from boxingexperts they all have holmes high on there lists. personally i think if they would fight 10 times then holmes would win at least 7 times. the difference in class is just to big
Holmes is getting over-rated when we start presuming he'd win these sorts of match-ups with no analysis. Holmes' lack of defence would be a big issue here IMO. It's another problem with the HW culture on this board - it's all so repetitve that half the time nobody bothers doing anything other than posting dismissively. Not that I ever do that.
I dont know why they use Tubbs to detract from Bowe in the first place. Tubbs was an excellent fighter, and Bowe was still learning at that point in his career. Its not like he got stopped by Ross Purrity?
I think Holmes would beat him-most likely on points. Bowe's a bit bigger and stronger but there's not too much in it. Holmes though is much better boxer than Bowe. Holyfield won his one fight against Bowe by being smart and boxing to a plan. Golota gave Bowe fits (fat Bowe admittedly) with a stiff jab and how good was Holmes behind the jab? Just how I see it-a jab fest. Bowe had a good jab but he wasn't 'a jabber'. As the fight progressed Bowe would abandon his jab and Holmes would establish his more and more. Holmes was too good and too smart to be forced into a strading war which is where Bowe would have his big advantage.
No, but he wasnt washed up either. He had respectable wins before and after Bowe, but also an embarassing loss to Lionel Butler, who could punch but thats about it. Tubbs showed up in decent shape to fight Bowe, and his record was pretty good with only the loss to Tyson and split decision loss to Spoon coming into the fight.
Yeah Tubbs is such an underrated fighter, probably has something to do with the fact that when he would lose that it looked bad alot of times, his chin did fail him from time to time, like against Tyson and Bulter.. But he could box his ass off, I remember the Bowe fight and he should have got the nod there, but that also was not a Prime Bowe but it was an in shape and very good Bowe so credit to Tubbs.. I remember after the loss to Butler his next fight when he boxed Bruce Seldons head off, Tubbs looked good there as well.. I remember him boxing circles around 14-0 Russian Prospect Alexander Zolkin as well.. I'm not sure what the heck happened against Jimmy Ellis I have that fight and its a quick one punch KO win for Ellis..??? That one has always puzzled me, maybe Tubbs wanted an early exit.... Bottom line I am big Tubbs fan I think a big reason for that was the guy was always fighting on Tuesday Night Fights or ESPN and I just liked how such a big guy like Tubbs was so slick he really had some sweet moves... He is very underrated in my eyes..
I agree. I think he just had problems with big punchers. Its almost like he got drawn into a slugfest. Even in the Tyson fight, he was boxing well from the outside, and then decided to get close and trade with Tyson. Tubbs had good footwork and very fast hands. He was a very good fighter regardless of his appearance.
