I love how Holmes just lays in the corners and pounds Ray with right jabs hooks upercuts you name it and they just bounce off Rays head (great chin)
I love in the final round where Holmes just screams at Ray Ohhhhhhhh, funny stuff.. Holmes was rocked by that jab.. Did you see how bad Ferguson rocked him in one of his comeback fights back on the ole Tuesday night fights back in the day?

I've got that all on tape.......... Jess Fergy nailed Holmes with his right in about the 4th round in '94 on the USA fights...... Holmes' chin took it well....... Holmes is GREAT!

I doubt that. Liston was a murderous puncher.

yea but Shavers hit harder by a bit.

He took longer to throw his big shots, and left himself more open that Sonny did.

In the end Liston = much more effective fighter than Shavers by a big margin

Idk...Liston was a very heavy puncher. I think the gap is too close to call. what makes you say shavers has the edge.

I sway towards Shavers by a small margine because of the reactions his opponents had after being his by clean shots from him.

Uppercuts, that seem harmless, raise opponents head all the way up.

If his opponents were against the ropes, a straight punch would send them all the way back, stretching the rope far. And thats from a punch not a shove.

Liston knocks his opponents out in similar fashion, making them hit the ground HARD due to the power, but I think Shavers edged it just by a bit.

Heres some quotes, just for fun:

Anything Earnie Shavers hit you with ,you wil feel. His punch was like photographers flashlights going of in my head. When he knocked me down I was out cold.
    - Ken Norton

Shavers is the greatest one punch hitter I've ever seen.
    - Mills Lane

Earnie hit me with a vicious right uppercut in the first round and it was heard around the world
    - Jimmy Ellis

Larry Holmes doesn't hit as hard as Earnie Shavers. Nobody hits like Shavers. If anybody hit harder than Shavers, I'd shoot him.
    &
Earnie Shavers could punch you in the neck and break your ankle.
    - Tex Cobb

I think I agree with Mills Lane. Shavers was the mosrt powerful one punch hitter, but he couldn't fight like Sonny. Theres no way Shavers would have put Williams down the way Sonny did. Theres no way Shavers would have been able to follow Williams around the ring, same with many of Listons knockouts.
