Foreman did struggle with outboxers and im not so sure liston has the strength to handle Fury in the clinches. Fury handled 6'1 240lb chisora with ease. Same thing regarding with Joe Louis and Ken Norton although Ken Norton might have been able to break Fury down and beat him. Likelyhood is all of these fighter hit harder than Fury but Furys size and skill might be too much. He isn't just big, he's also fluid for his size. But this is if he remains undefeated and cleans out the division. He might not and Aj might beat him. But Ali would definitely beat Fury. 60s Ali is just too slick. I forgot to mention that. Lewis and Ali. Riddick Bowe as well as Bowe was 6'5 240lb and wouldn't be at that big of a size disadvantage and Bowes inside game was Elite level.
Hard to say who wins this but it will probably be Holmes on points ... But Fury is a unique boxer and we've never seen anything like him
Holmes was 36 years old against Carl Williams. Let's at least TRY to be fair. Holmes never had any issues with size. As a matter of fact very man who beat Holmes, outweighed him. Even in his last fight, he garned a decisive victory over Butterbean who was 334 pounds. Safe to say size wasn't an issue for him. Also Holmes weighed more than 212 pound Wilder who dropped Fury twice and nearly stopped him. Actually laughed out loud at this. The 6'3 37 year old 210 pound Cunningham dropped a young Fury, and by Fury's own admission gave him the toughest fight of his life, and was ahead on all cards before being stopped but the bigger, faster, stronger infinitely more skilled Holmes "would not be able to do anything with Fury" OK buddy. Fury weighed 273 pounds but three times in his career. From 1978, to 1982, widely regarded as Holmes peak, he did not ever come in at 210 or below, not once. You're intentionally cherry picking Holmes lowest weights he came in early in his career, when he'd not fully developed while cherry picking extreme outliers in Fury's weight None of this is true. He definitely is better on the outside but he was formidable at all ranges.
Holmes was 35 when he fought Williams .. I love Fury. I think he has a gigantic heart, courage and is skilled but drama aside I think he's very overrated .. his big victories, a sleepwalk over an old, catatonic Wlad, and stoping the worst one trick pony in heavyweight boxing history in Wilder ,.. Holmes had an 80" reach, not 78 .. either way he was much faster, sharper, a better puncher, took a much better shot ... I see Holmes dicing Fury up and stopping him on cuts ..
Fury and it’s an obvious mismatch I have talked about this fight on a few occasions, Holmes’s jab would not be effective at all, even though he was good with the jab, the height and reach difference would be just too much for Holmes to be effective with the jab and even Carl Williams was outjabbing Holmes at times and he was only 1 inch taller than Holmes, Fury is way better than Carl Williams and has a better jab, as for the rest of Holmes’s arsenal, he does move, but he can’t get in and out with explosive combinations and explosive feet in and out, he has good feet on the back foot, but not explosive feet in and out and he would have to, he would be stuck on the outside where he would be ineffective and he would not be able to come forward and force the openings because he is so much weaker and smaller, he would not be able to get in and out Haye Valuev style because he doesn’t have the fast twitch explosive feet required for that, and he would not be outjabbing Fury despite how good his jab is, the reach and height is just too much despite what you want to think
How would he dice Fury up? Fury is 6’9 and uses his height and range, Holmes would struggle to land on Fury, Fury is not a fighter to give up his reach and walk forward which is the only way he would get diced up, there is no way a 6’9 elite heavyweight who masterfully uses his height and reach would get diced up by anyone
Ffs why does the Cunningham fight STILL to this day get brought up when people are criticising Fury? Fury had no experience at world level prior to that fight and was very raw, he is a completely different fighter now and has 2 completely different styles It was like 7 years ago
He'd been boxing since he was 10 years old, had turned pro five years earlier, and was 25 already, so he was not "very raw". As a matter of fact, just two years after this bout, he garnered a career best victory over Wladimir Klitschko. He never should've had any trouble with Cunningham, let alone a 37 year old one, who was never a world-class fighter at any point in his career, much less when he was 37 years old. I find it funny how you give Holmes all kind of hell for struggling with a genuine world-class fighter in Carl Williams when he was 36 years old, overweight, clearly past his prime, and had taken the fight on three weeks notice, but when confronted with Fury's performance as a 25 year old getting dropped and struggling against a 37 year old, past prime Cunningham who was never world class at any point in his career, you come out with all sorts of excuses. This is a double standard of breathtaking proportions!
He had been boxing for 15 years? Doesn’t make a difference, if he was 25 and had been boxing for 15 years he had not fought anyone who was world level, someone can have been boxing a long time and be inexperienced at world level and he came through that first test anyway and improved massively also Steve Cunningham was world level and had world level skills, he has some good names actually, Wlodarszyk, Adamek (Robbed), Huck who he eat by stoppage and Guillermo Jones and Cunningham was a multi time world champion at Crusierweight
I disagree .. Holmes had his own huge reach, was a master at using it, was much faster, a sharper puncher and a better fighter .. who has Fury beaten ?
Holmes loses at least 2 inches from the beat down Fury puts on him. Official records would have to be re written to state Holmes is only around 6' tall.
Fury beat old man Klitschko and one trick pony Wilder. Holmes beat Norton (champ and at least top 20 ATG), Shavers (considered perhaps the greatest puncher who ever lived) twice, Weaver (champion for over two years), Leroy Jones (undefeated top 5 contender), Tex Cobb (top contender), WItherspoon (two time champ), Mercer (champ), Leon Spinks (champ), Smith (champ), Berbick (champ), Cooney (#1 contender), Ali (only man to have stopped him, an ATG widely considered greatest heavyweight who ever lived..granted, he was over several years past his prime and probably even less a win than Fury had over Klitchsko).
