Ah cool. Wasn't Dempsey part Cherokee or some Native-American?

    Sports wise Jim Thorpe lol.

Not many Natives ever went into the ranks of boxing though.

Based on his stats alone (20 title defenses) he's number 3 for me, behind only Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali.

I trained with a few Natives when i was in Job corps and 2 guys were pretty good. It would be great to see a native reach the top of the boxing world. My Great grandma was 3/4 Navajo from New Mexico.

Virgil Hill...and some guy named Hank Arm-something was part. Oh, and Joe Louis was a quarter Cherokee, I think.

I don't like him at all.

    But I got him 5 or 6.

    1 Ali
    2 Louis
    3 Lewis/Foreman

    5 Marciano/Holmes

    i don't think there is.
    Possibly-
Ali, Louis, Marciano, Lewis, Liston, Tyson, Foreman, Johnson, Frazier, and Dempsey??
I don't see it. He's gotta be in there instead of Dempsey or Johnson.

I hate this comparison. Ali was a walking corpse the night he fought Holmes. Louis was a top rated contender fresh off 8 victories in a row, was next in line for a title shot, when he lost to Marciano. big difference.

He's joking ... wanted to throw the "white" guys a bone !

So he has no top ten, just a top eight ...O.K.

I would agree it is not accurate. Ali was inactive and on medication that destroyed his ability to perform. However very few buy the Louis was a qualified top contender act. No matter how you read it it rips Marciano . Everyone knows Joe was a shell of his prime. He was a top contender it shows how weak the era was ...

For me Larry Holmes is one of the greats who came accross as a bit prickly but you can't blame him for that considering all the neg press he had too put up with. He's in the top 5# for me def & with regards to Lennox Lewis I've always been of the mind Larry would've knocked him out.

Larry should be in most peoples top 10..despite his big mouth he did defend often, didn't duck many top contenders and a champ of his pedigree is sorely missed today
