 :hey :yep Believe it or not though, back in my teens me and some friends rolled one up that was similar in size to that one for a party we were going to, helluva night that was. Time really does fly when you think about it, seems just like yesterday I was still in my teens.... oh well thats life. Time for a drink now! One glass of Bushmills coming up for me, hoorray! :happy
One never mentioned is that Ledoux--Norton fight. Anyone that's seen it sure wasn't picking Kenny to do much in that Cooney matchup in his next bout. But it wasn't a high profile bout and some boxing people were picking Norton over cooney. If you don't recall the Ledoux bout, Kenny was out when the bell tolled at the end of the 10th & everyone thought the ref had stopped the fight. He didn't & it went to the scorecards and was a draw in a fight were Norton pretty much dominated the first 7 rounds. Nice rally by Ledoux late and the guy would always compete to the best of his abilities in there. Speaking of Ledoux, that was an alltime brutal left uppercut Foreman landed on him and put him in a heap. Hardly an easy thing to do & I was surprised Scott was able to rebound from that and go on to have a nice career.
Jake LaMotta-Jimmy Reeves According to the report shown on boxrec, it was fairly close to the way it was depicted in the film, except that Reeves was "more tired than hurt".
Yes, just had to throw it in. A fight of 2 halves, If there had a been a 16th round Rose wouldn't of come out for it. He did us proud that night.
i would like to add emmanuel augustus and glenn johnson in at least ten of their fights each. both where very capable of pulling 5th gear when the other fighter was tired only to lose a controversial decision despite the hard work.
As the resident Floyd Patterson nut-hugger I might mention his second fight with Quarry in the tournament (tho hardly an exciting affair IMO-their first fight MUCH better) Jerry scored the flash KD's in the 2nd and 4th and by the end of the 6th lackidasical Floyd was hopelessly behind. Quarry goes on auto-pilot and Floyd (as usual) leaves his killer-instinct in the trunk BUT becomes the aggressor winning virtually every round after that leading to a (who the hell won?) mindset when the final bell rang...
If you want to consider some unofficial cards, or fights where a large percentage of even the unbiased fans had fights going a different way: Someone already mentioned Oscar closing the show against Ike Quartey in a fight many felt that De la Hoya lost. Trinidad started applying the pressure when De la Hoya began to coast, or tire, in their fight. I really don't remember how well Margarito did against Paul Williams in the final rounds of their fight, but I do remember thinking that Margarito found Williams out a little too late. Recently, I read that Oquendo won the majority of the late rounds against James Toney. Apparently Toney's early lead was enough to win. I have not seen the fight.
nuts someone beat me to marg williams i thought marg had one that fight by a point but he waited too long in the early rounds so i couldnt really complain about the result
