The Latin Welterweight Tournament is now concluded. I would like to thank everyone who participated in the voting. Thank You!

The final is here! Miami's Orange Bowl is filled to capacity for this great match up of Cuban Welterweights. Jose "Montaquilla" Napoles versus Cuba's Luis M. Rodriguez. Napoles comes out fast & uses his speed to score points & Luis looks for his openings, while establishing his jab. Rodriguez applies pressure in the middle rounds. & is using his superrior strength to outmuscle Jose on the inside. In the tenth round Napoles suffers a bad cut! Rodriguez presses the advantage & takes the lead. Jose fights hard in the thirteenth, but Rodriguez fires back with hard volleys!
Napoles tries to turn the tide in the final rounds, but Luis is right there with him, not giving an inch! With blood streaming down his face, Naploes is staggered by a right hand! Another hard combination lands, followed by another & Napoles goes down to one knee! Jose rises & manages to finish the fight on his feet!
    146-144 Rodriguez 145-142 Rodriguez 144-143 Rodriguez

LUIS RODRIGUEZ .15 DEC. JOSE NAPOLES

Yes, Rodriguez had a strong showing with the voters. Was very suprised when most favored him over Roberto Duran in the first round. From then on he was the favorite.

I'd of picked Rodriguez around round 8/9 on cuts. Napoles was fantastic in his prime, smooth, silky skills, he possessed great footwork and could bang. But Rodriguez was a great rounded fighter in his own right. He had the power and all-round boxing ability to give Napoles major trouble, and could mix up attacks from body to head like it was nothing, he was fleet-footed himself and could tough it out and fight inside or out.

No doubt after he started to get the votes against Duran it was clear (for once) Rodriguez was gonna get his dues. Well called Pea :good

You can be sure that Rodriguez will get his dues on the Classic Forum. These are without doubt the most knowledgable and focused posters on the boards, much different to, let's say, the General Forum for instance.

 Thankyou sir. I'm going to stick around here more often. The General Forum is far too ******ed for me, I end up getting into petty arguements. I think I'm going to just snoop around here for a while and learn.

If this was the general the final would've been Oscar vs Cotto

I was one of the first to pick Rodriguez over Duran, so if everyone's saying he gained momentum from that to go on and take the tourney i think i deserve a shout out. Luis you owe me! haha
