It's embarrassing that the RING website would print such BS without fact checking.

Several fighter have attested to cottos power, pacquiao says hes the hardest hitter he fought and malignaggi said "no one hits like cotto" emanuel steward said cotto is one of the best punchers he's ever trained(source-commentary in cotto margarito 2). Mayorga went as far as to accuse cotto of having tampered with his gloves. Cotto was just less agressive and vicious than tito most of the time so he had less impressive results

Hearns wasnt necessarily the hardest puncher duran fought either, sure he hit really hard but a KO like the one that he produced against duran has more to do with speed, accuracy and timing.
Emanuel steward said on tommy hearns not necessarily being the hardest puncher but people not seeing his punches (source- commentary on roy jones vs glen kelly)

Alot of ingorance on display again in this thread

Pierre Coetzer was a very strong physical kind of fighter. Very durable, and tough. He gave Bruno a really tough fight. It was a very physical fight. I'm not surprised Bruno remembers his strength.

I could see Lennox Lewis. Bonecrusher Smith. Tim Witherspoon. Oliver McCall. Mike Tyson. I could even see Jumbo Cummings.

Every heavyweight is strong. But Coetzer? Guys like JB Williamson went the distance with Coetzer. Williamson was getting flattened and beaten by the likes of Juan Roldan (the middleweight), Jesse Shelby and Peter McNeeley at that point. The only guy who didn't knock out Williamson was Coetzer.

Just seemed odd given who Bruno faced in his career.

Indeed, he lost the trilogy though, which is what I was referring to.

Bramble was hit with a punch as he was being pummeled at the start of being hit clean. Rosario was hitting him clean and knocked him out easily. No excuses there. Rosario outclassed Bramble.

I like Campos insistence that DLH was ducking Lopez. I was a huge Lopez fan. Thoughts?

I have a mutual friend with Vinnie. According to her, he's one of those people who just have no filter. If he thinks it then he says it. Some people love that and some hate it. Very few are willing to call him on it.

Oscars willingness to fight Whitaker, Quartey, Trinidad, Vargas and Hopkins leads me to believe that's false. I'd probably call it prudent match making on Oscars (or his promoters behalf) that they didn't meet Lopez because he was the definition of the high risk/low reward fight. Not a big name or profile, could be inconsistent but when he was on was he was tough ask for anyone (as Ike Quartey found out the hard way).

I don't know who has the least believable, but one thing that always bugs me is when they ask a fighter who's the bigger puncher they faced. The reply is usually not someone that knocked them out, and more often than not someone they defeated.

I have no doubt Lopez was given a wide berth, but so were plenty of others fighters back then. I do think you're absolutely correct in calling it prudent match making. I doubt Oscar was ever conventionally afraid of much of anyone. Anyway...

Weren't Winky and James Page routinely ducked back then as well?

Fighters always seem to come out with unexpected fighters they rate. Maybe sometimes it's not what you expect but my old fella who fought the best in the world picked Spanish bantamweight Agustin Senin as the strongest he fought and Pierre Vetroff French bantamweight champ as his hardest fight, it was a brutal affair. Going by that and him explaining why I tend to give fighters the benefit of the doubt. I notice Nelson said Mario Martinez was the best he fought but Julio Cesar Chavez I think said Martinez was the strongest he fought.
