The fact that he came into the vitali fight fat and out of shape is another indicator the desire was not the same to keep fighting on.

His desire wasn’t the same for every fight but Lennox clearly wanted to fight into his 40’s and he believed the landscape was easy work relative to his talents.

He massively miscalculated the Klitschkos and the level that would require him to get at to take them on again...he didn’t have the drive anymore.

It is very similar to Wlad right now. Wlad would decapitate everyone but Joshua and Fury and it just isn’t worth it to him.

    Strangely, Vitali retired him.

    But...

He went out at the right time. He needed to do what was best for himself, not just boxing fans.

He was older than most HW champions.
He went out a winner, stopping the guy who was in many ways, his immediate successor.

He beat very man he ever faced, so no, he did not leave any unfinished business.

Best HW of his generation and IMO, third best ever.

Don't forget he tried to take Tyson to court to exercise the rematch for their initial meeting despite being totally dominant after the 1st round.

This is the same Lewis who went to court to block a proposed Tyson v Mercer fight in the January (I think) prior to Lewis v Tyson.

He took Tyson to court to stop the fight from happening as if Tyson had lost it scuppered his own fight and payday. Needless to say the fight never happened.

He wouldnt have left immediately, but I think he was on his way out. Maybe he takes 2, 3 more fights before he either leaves on top or loses a fight he "shouldn't" have.

    LOL

I'm just wondering if you take your own advice when it comes to Joe Calzaghe?

Correct. Lewis got out on his own terms and that should be the aim of everyone who pulls on a glove.

I have the punch count to the Lewis vs Klitchko fight......

Let's just say I was even shocked ,fight was easily in Klitchko hands.

Lewis is a great guy, even talked to him on twitter but he robbed the fans and himself of a fight he promised...not a big fan of any fighter going out like that on a cut stoppage win....

The division was wide open without the Klitchkos.

What exactly is a lot of fights???

Lewis would have at least been around 5 more fights..a rematch with Tyson ( the one he wanted) ,there would be no reason for him to retire. People can't seriously suggest that there's evidence he wanted to retire prior to the Vitali fight...its illogical.

He certainly wasn't planning on the Vitali match being his last before the opening bell rang.

Vitali had 2 weeks to train for the Lewis fight, would have knocked Lewis out if he had had one more round, Lewis was finished! Hell, Lewis had a very badly broken nose, he retired after that, he refused a rematch for huge money! Vitali retired Lewis for good!

Lennox Lewis TKO 6 Vitali Klitschko

Same old, same old thread by Klitschko fans although this one has at least been disguised a bit

Get over it fellas, Lennox was an ATG probably top 2 or 3 HW of all time, there’s no shame for Vitali in getting badly beat by him.
