The Bentt fight was less than half of a round. I dont remember Mercer being in a war with Morrison either.

Bentt himself said he was out on his feet, I seem to remember Mercer coming from behind

Perhaps its been a while since you've seen the bout, and in truth, its been almost 20 years for me as well... But, that fight was definitley a war.. Morrison had him hurt early, and Ray came back to clobber him.. Both men took huge shots, and were in several crowd pleasing exchanges.. Again, its been a while, but the fight was more or less a slugfest.

Just a fun aside. From a 2007 interview:

Q: You were always known for having a rock solid chin. Who hit you the hardest in your professional career?

    Mercer:
Tommy Morrison. Morrison hit me so hard to the body with those hooks that I was actually farting in the ring. (Laughs) You have to act like…you can’t let the guy see that you’re hurt, but I’m pretty sure he heard and smelled a couple of things. (Laughs) But he hit me harder than I was ever hit in boxing.

Yeah been a while, that is a funny statement from Ray. Fight was a good one. All of Morrisons fight were entertaining. A slugger with a suspect chin what else can you ask for, but I still stand by my statement that what Lewis did to Morrison wasnt anything that wasnt expected.
If you want to say he beat him better, I would say Lewis boxed a different kind of style than Bentt and Mercer and didnt try and engage Morrison early like the others did.

Lewis was not as reckless at this point in his career. He learned to be more patient after McCall. But when he found an opening, he would strike like a cobra and finish guys off. It showed that Lewis could box AND punch.

Yes Emanuel Steward made him a far better fighter contrary to what some people think on this forum.
