Well i think if Dempsey was the titleholder then Dempsey, Kearns and Rickard would have taken every available avenue to avoid facing Lewis.

    Prime Lewis prevails against Dempsey.

I do not really know what would happen, but I would not write off Jack Dempsey's chances here off hand. I think many of the old time Heavyweights are severely underrated in 2023, especially those with prime average weights of less than 200 pounds. Guys like Jack Dempsey had a huge amount of really tough experiences in and out of the ring. We are not even certain how many professional fights the man had. I am very skeptical of those who dismiss his chances with a casual wave of the hand.

Lewis was the harbinger of 21st century HW boxing, 6'5"+ giants, were weren't just big stiffs but had skill. Jess Willard was probably only a boxer because he was big not any skill set he possessed, silly to compare him to Lewis.

Ring Magazine said: "The Dempsey of the Willard fight in 1919 was a "stone cold killer!"...he was called "The most dangerous unarmed man in the world!"...

Good is an understatement. Lewis is arguably the best big man in the history of the sport. I really don't see Dempsey pulling off the upset here. I'm sure someone could make a good case for it but that person is not me.

Can't see Jack winning this at all. I think Lewis stops him around the seventh round.

Moot point, Jack would never fight Lewis.

Comparing Willard, among the worst heavyweight champions, to Lewis, among the best ever, is fool's gold for nostalgists.

    Bingo

Two fringe of the fringe contenders.

Dempsey's best chances are catching pre Steward Lewis cold straight out of the gate, we are talking the pawing jab telegraphing right behind no clinch version.................under Steward his chance drop significantly.

I would pick Lewis to defeat every cruiserweight in history 2-0.

    Hi Buddy.
Agree entirely, in fact if Dempsey rushes Lewis, then yes a 1 or 2 round rout is on the cards.
    stay safe Eddie.
