As i've said; I don't think it's fair to dismiss Dempsey on the grounds or size unless you do the same with Joe Louis during his peak or Joe Frazier during his. And I haven't seen you do this.

...maybe they mean while Duran is asleep?

have you also seen some of the comments that he was a tomato can, looked like a child vs Carpeinter, a pub fighter etc etc.

It's true. He's like the Classic version of General's Tyson, more **** gets talked about him, good and bad, than any other fighter.

Sorry mate, but i consider Louis and Frazier bigger men on average by about 12-15 pounds and close to 20 for Frazier. I believe the gap between 188 pounds and 200+ is substancial (much more so than say 220 vs 240 etc) and is right on the fine line of competitiveness vs big great fighters. I wouldn't doubt Louis and Frazier could have their problems with the Lewis', Bowe's and co but i rate them a much better chance than Dempsey. I really don't think one can bracket Dempsey with those two.

    :yep

During his peak years, Dempsey is listed as weighing as much as 197. If the weight issue upsets you, use this version. He'd be a pound lighter than Louis when Joe dismantled Schmeling.

    Seriously, why not?

Christ, I think this is a silly debate, and apparently 1/9 posts in this thread belong to me

No all i am saying is that some people do not religously pick him over any heavyweight, and even guys like Janitor( who regularly defends Dempsey) picks someone like Louis to beat him, and so far i dont think i have ever seen a poster who picks him to beat everyone.

Well lets use the 213 pound Louis that beat Walcott and the 217 pound Frzier that shupped Stander.

Frazier and Louis are quite simply the naturally bigger men.

This is a bit obstructive John.

Why don't you want to address Dempsey at 197lbs?

Why are you so keen to artificially lessen the weight gap between Louis and Frazier? The simple fact of the matter is that Dempsey's best/common fighting weight was oft around 188'ish. Frazier and Louis are naturally bigger men for mine. Maybe the 197 Dempsey knew he had an easy opponent and didn't train to peak fitness, whatever. I see it was a KO1 over a guy with no record at all recorded so i can't imagine a spartan camp.

Louis was not prime when he beat Walcott, That Louis could have lost to Dempsey imo. Slower hand speed, and foot of couse. During the pre war years Louis was about 200 or so pounds. Maybe 205 at most.

Look when you get older, you gain weight.

Ali had a belly in his later years as a fighter, of couse no one needs to mention Johnson's weight problem when he battle Moran and Willard. Not to say they were not in shape, they were still in shape. But for there age and body weight, they got a bit over weight. Which is comman for older guys.

Arnie is growing a belly if I recall lol.

Why are my efforts artificial? He is listed at 197, right in the middle of those peak years...now someone might arrive in this thread and point out that Jack was in horrible shape, that if he hadn't blasted his man out in the first he probably would have been stopped around 5 when he ran out of steam, but i've never heard it said.

During his peak years, Dempsey weighed 197. During his peak years, Louis weighed between 197 and 206. At his HEAVIEST during his PEAK YEARS, Dempsey weighed just enough to be included in a bracket with Louis, who you would NEVER try to throw out for being to small.

There is nothing artifial about this.

I agree with all of this. What is there to disagree with in what i've written above? Why are they incompatible? Dempsey, as he exsists in our experience weighed the same as Louis did at his very very best.

He weighed about 7lbs less than Joe Frazier did at his very very best.

    Yes or no?
