Carl Morris :patsch FFS Janitor it's clearly an era of smaller weaker men that don't hit as hard

And no beating a 37yo inactive champion who has been beaten by 180lb fighters in his prime is not a P4P performance at all

The fact you can't acknowledge Lewis is the technically correct boxer and Dempsey technically is poor shows you don't about the technical aspects of boxing. It has nothing to do with style

The point is that Mercer's chin waqs dentable, and he took Lewis's punches. I was not the person who brought the example up, but I don't think it does Lewis any favours.
When was Mercer's chin dentable? When he was shot maybe, Dempsey was knocked out by 1 punch near his prime and nearly knocked out by a strongman with no skill, he hasn't shown the level of durability Mercer has in his career

Lennox inside the distance. Providing he takes his time in the early stages, otherwise the faster Dempsey knocks Lewis out.

Wow, this is a long thread. Anyway, why are we comparing Dempsey with Mercer now? Height and reach? So what? Style? Totally different. Mercer was much heavier... totally different size than Dempsey. Ray Lewis has a similar height and reach to Dempsey as well... does that mean Dempsey could have smashed guys on the football field like RAY Lewis?

Come on man... you motherfvckers are getting crazy now!!!

DeLaHoya is taller and has a longer reach than Mike Tyson... he's also faster and more technical, his chin is good..........

There's no need for debate it is clear as day that Dempsey's set of skills would be obsolete against modern fighters.
Janitor either refuse to aknoledge that or he simply doesn't know wtf he's taking about

Dempsey got KTFO by this guy:

If you don't see how bad he is( by modern standards) you're either :
a) an incredible idiot
b) or a complete and shameful denier
there is no need to debate about style there is no need to debate wathever dempsey was or not in his prime, Flynn wouldn't last 5 rounds with Kimbo, thats how bad he was

and this is Dempsey:

Janitor ain't schooling no one, he talks like a 90 year senile old man about fighters from his childhood

Nobody beat anybody as big&good as Lennox Lewis other than Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman - that must make those two the greatest of all time then by default??

Yes it does - you telling me if Jerry Quarry had've beaten Muhammad Ali when he came back it wouldn't have mattered because Ali had been out three years?? You're talking out of your ring if you say yes

It has everything to do with boxing - styles make fights is the oldest adage there is!!

Lewis was always hesitant - thats a strong enough suggestion to me that he himself wasn't particularly confident about his own chin. Dempsey frequently fought with a kill or be killed mentality which suggests he had no fear of putting his chin on the line

Yet you choose sub par opponents like Carnera, Willard and Fulton to compare to Lewis who has little with them stylistically. Just because Dempsey and Louis do well against average big men doesn't mean they do well against a fast SHW who can match their speed and skills
It doesn't mean they couldn't either - and by the same token just because Lewis could beat average little guys doesn't mean he could beat one of the most dangerous in history either

If he was clearly the best he would've been champion - end of - jack Johnson was clearly the best of his era - he couldn't be denied - Joe Louis was clearly the best of his era and he couldn't be denied - end of

Actually that's a completely meaningless comparison. Nobody is applying judo throws at anyone. As to whether or not Lennox's strength would mean anything, I suggest you want boxing rather than judo and that you watch the Ruddock fight to get some idea of where it could mean quite a bit.

Generally speaking it's not that Dempsey has no chance of beating Lewis but he has at best a punchers chance, and if Lewis could keep the fight at a distance than a punchers chance turns into almost no chance. Dempsey's only real chance would be to get to Lewis and hurt him in the first round, perhaps even the second round, but if he can't do that I think he's chances decrease significantly the longer the fight goes.

But thats exactly the point that you don't seem to get.

Dempsey was a puncher who manufactured his chance.

He wouldn't wait for Lewis to make a mistake, he would force him to make one. That is the difference between a limited fighter like Ramhan and an all time finisher like Dempsey.
