Not only did this go beyond 10 pages, it has now gone beyond 10 years....bet you wouldn’t have thought that at the time
lennox is too smart to really get caught out, will take it on cautious points. But, should Jack KO him, Lewis takes the return on points.
The sub 200 pounder gets brutally mauled. Jack Dempsy will try to use his infamous "Dempsey Roll" and realize Lewis is on a completely different dimension of skill than the rudimentary clumsy big men of his era as he gets his head boxed off by Lewis's super heavyweight jab and blasted out with ease
Dempsey demolishes Lewis with the Mickey Rourke cat punch, which he actually invented and passed down in a secret lineage. KO 2 Dempsey.
Assuming Jack is brought to modern days, restored to his prime, with full memory of his career, and gets to see Lewis fight before he has to fight him (the same for Lewis, of course), I would expect Jack to train in a way where he would show up for the fight around 200 pounds. IMHO, if you match these guys 10 times, each is going to have wins in these match ups. With modern rules, and 12 rounds, and Lewis boxing carefully, I'd give him the edge, but not by much.
Lennox could either neutralize or stop Dempsey. Jack probably has to KO the bigger man. That puts more pressure on the Mauler. He does however represent a new threat. Unlike the other great HW attackers, Jack was not relegated to charging at you. He could circle and this would be key. He has to ability to mess with Lewis' anticipation, draw out jabs, make him reach, spring attacks from nowhere. Dempsey will be harder to read than Marciano, Frazier and Tyson. He could glide then explode. Nor was he too short at 6'1". Lennox draping himself on a 24-year-old Dempsey will not be the simple task it was against a 35-year-old Tyson - a man who was never good inside. Body shot, uppercuts, Jack was vicious in close. Now, with Lewis' formidable blend of skill, caution and spite, you could see that great uppercut having the last say - and perhaps he's the favourite - but he wouldn't make the mistake many are here in thinking this is simple. This is a tricky bomb disposal.
I give Dempsey a better chance than Marciano, as I think he was overall a better fighter. Unfortunately a better chance is not enough. Lewis via brutal KO (should Dempsey even step in the ring with him of course).
