In the top bracket in terms of raw power, sure. Harder than absolutely everybody? I'm not nearly as convinced.

If you dont like his punching technique then you have to respect his raw power, given what he did.

I think it is possible to apply logic and analysis to matches between those fighters, yes. But all of that probably goes floating out of the window on fight night, undoubtedly.

However here and now I am reasonably confident that a great puncher, jabber and defensive infighter (which Lewis is) who has a huge weight, height and reach advantage would be a pretty serious favourite.

Just not the 1/50 extent that Sweet Pea has identified.

I also find heavily for Tyson against Frazier and Demspey against Foreman for different reasons. But such match ups are few and far between.

In addition i'll say this - if I had to arrange to have Dempsey taken out, Lewis would be close to the very top of that list.

He'd be on my short list.

Paul Anderson, the Olympic gold medalist in weight lifting who eventually tried his luck at boxing, could probably have carried a deer, and perhaps even a moose, for miles. He could not win boxing matches, however.

    "Dempsey was a cruiser."

With the punch of a superheavyweight. That's what makes this a little trickier than an obvious beatdown.

When the "cruisers" and the superheavies were in the same division, the cruisers in fact did rather well in smashing down the big fellows. Can you give me a historical example of the man who proved too big to be ko'd by Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Thompson, or Satterfield. It was skill and speed which gave them problems, not size.

Lewis had skill. Speed is another question. Dempsey would be a dangerous opponent for him, more so than someone like Tua in my judgement.

Yeah, clearly, the ability to carry a heavy object for long distances has no bearing whatsoever on boxing ability.

I think that was the premise to the good-humoured post that began this discussion in the first place.

This isn't a fight I'd pay to see. It would probably be over inside 2 minutes. It's one for the highlight reel though.

    Dempsey KO1 Lewis.

If Lewis starts like he did his fight against Golota, Dempsey might just end up being blasted through the ropes and out of the ring. :yep

I doubt Lewis would even lay a glove on him, but if it happened it wouldn't faze him. He climb back in and destroy the big lummox.
