Kalule was a guy who worked his way up and earned his shot for the title. I remember watching his rise to the top. He was very well respected in the boxing circles. A true jr. middle. At the time SRL fought him, it was not a slam dunk that he`d win. He definitley was not flashy, but he was effective. Looking back now it may not seem like a big accomplishment. But back in the day, when it the fight took place it was a good solid victory.

Kalule was never the same after losing to SRL in 1981. Kalule hung around for a while longer basically winning and losing... He was stopped in 1982 by Davey Moore...

That is true, he was never the same after losing to Leonard. Like Moore wasn`t the same after losing to Duran. Happens sometimes with the young talented fighters. They seem to lose `something` after their first loss...

Kalule is the most consistently underrated fighter on the classic forum.Well except Alan Rudkin and Walter McGowan by TBooze.
