I know we have at least a few long time Australian based posters on classic that I respect. I hope you guys all get to see & enjoy this one and get more than a little something out of it.

 

Les Darcy is one of the most misaligned and poorly treated fighters of the last hundred plus years of the sport. I can only think of a handful of other fighters who may have been treated more unfairly, more ripped off, held back and harshly judged.... men the likes of Jack Johnson (who ran into similar persecution no matter where in the United States he traveled, seemingly pursued just like Les) and Sam Langford.

 

Bump for a fantastic documentary that I can't imagine very many well have seen.

It might be outside of plenty of peoples "comfort zones" or the era of boxing you prefer... But give it a chance. One of the best sub-hour pieces on boxing I've seen in years. Darcy was a phenom of his own time and a fighter that should be highly lauded and discussed to this day.

 

I really thought this of all topics I've started in the past few months would generate some serious discussion, considering this is supposed the Classic forum.

 

You can actually look at your traffic, who's viewing what content you've posted on Youtube, and people actually are really watching this documentary... I don't know if it's people from here or not but it shot right up to the top 10 of my most digested videos and I have quite a few up. One of the reasons that it struck me as so strange no one wants to talk about it here... Who the hell is watching it exactly?

 

Can you believe that people are actually seriously discussing that? There are so, so many interesting boxing related subjects one could talk about... A near infinite number of them. You could even talk about the plethora of fights that just took place last night... But why would you want to talk about Bruce Seldon...?!!?!

I think Les Darcy already proved, even in his brief and short career, that he was capable of battling and defeating far bigger men. I think the eventual route the big time promoters of the day would have gone was bringing him up in weight to fight larger and larger fighters. If he had lived and been finally allowed to fight without legal issues that is.
