Yep, thats what it takes to make your face look like a water balloon against the great Alex Stewart, standing directly in front of that FIGHTER (I guess crappy should´ve gotten that capslock )

Since your comeback, have you ever made an argument other than "he was my boxing hero", wearing these multicoloured glasses?

Top 5 simpleton on this board for me so far. Congrats!

How many landed? How many came close to landing? One has to be at least somewhat believable. Witherspoon tried to get out of the fight. How interested did he really look? It's bizarre.

    Smith was in full training.

Yes, that's the first choklab post here where I felt his reasoning was mortally flawed.

That said, no criticism intended, most if not all the crap I write is mortally flawed.

Smith was not a crappy fighter. He was limited but an extreme handful for any great heavyweight. How crappy can a guy be who knocks out a prime Bruno, Weaver and Witherspoon?

Comeback George was a different proposition to the first George Foreman. I think you are blurring both carnations of George to invent something here that never existed. Comeback George was a mere contender level guy. A legit contender mind, but limited at world level.

comeback George had heavy hands. He was very experienced. He fought at a walk and was very limited at world level. His jab was a good single punch, but it wasn’t fast or anywhere near the effective tool you think it was. He could not do much with it when he moved up in class.

George was fortunate he had that deal with HBO. If George Foreman was managing Bonecrusher Smith (with that same HBO golden deal) Smith could have had all the same preparation and won all the same fights Foreman did.

    The mythical Foreman.....

12 with absolute cannon fodder Schulz/Saverese/Grimsley........12 with Tommy Chin..........10 with Glass cannon Stewart...........that some brutal killer stuff right there..................a shot to shid stoned Tyson waxed Golata in 2 while Foreman would never ever go near a fighter of Golatas caliber despite being a Polish mental midget

Some more Killer stuff..............after winning a couple of belts from Moorer he refused to fight the coked out Ghost of Tony Tucker and got stripped..........hand picked the c level Kraut and got a gift decision, refused the ordered rematch and got stripped too........the stuff of legends.

The old man was lucky to never meet Tyson in the Ring, he would have gotten seriously hurt..

I was disappointed George split all the belts up again. He messed up the division at that time. He denied worthy challengers a title chance and instead fought who he liked.

Weaver was faded and could no longer take a punch. Even Williams hurt him in their brief affair.

We've surely deduced Witherspoon was both out of shape and disinterested. That is on him but it's certainly a worthwhile thing to keep in mind especially given Tim all but shut the same guy out previously.

Bruno had the fight won before being knocked out late. Sorta like Foreman - Moorer ;)

You say Boncrusher would be "an extreme handful for any great heavyweight". I completely disagree. I think Ali would have far less than an "extreme handful" with him. I think peak Holmes would be the same. He was a handful for Holmes but Larry was far from peak. There are many others i'd put in the same boat including peak Foreman.

We do however have an actual event against a great heavyweight -

Would you describe him as giving Mike Tyson "an extreme handful"? He won but a single round on two cards and none on the other and mostly hugged Tyson like he was his girl.

To be fair tho Bonecrusher was a good fighter. Emile Griffith started training him a bit before the Bruno fight and helped him improve quite a bit. He won some and lost some against quite good fighters.

No, comeback George was lineal champion level for a time. He rose above "mere contender level" by winning the lineal title. No matter how hard you try to pretend it didn't happen it simply did and posters in here aren't about to forget it.

Winning a lineal title does not equal "very limited at world level". Your continual denial of this point gives your game away.

Ok so i dont want to put words in your mouth, but what im gathering is that essentially you're saying that:

-a "puncher" is only regarded as such if theyre coming off wins and are thus "dangerous"? Like how ruddock was a "dangerous" contender against tyson but against Lewis he had a lot of miles on the clock and thus wasn't a good example of Lewis facing a "big puncher"...?

-To you it doesnt matter if a guy still obviously has a lot of power, if theyre past their prime you cant use that as good evidence fighter X can take a good punch? Are you saying we just ignore Foreman taking flush power shots ftom Cooney and Cooper for this reason even though they have well established reputations as punchers?

-you argue that fighters aren't "robots" and one or two tiny examples of them showing something different is proof that they'd be able to change their entire style at the last minute in a difficult matchup? If this is what you're saying, then by your logic Canelo of the first Golovkin fight who showed good lateral movement ONCE in his whole career should theoretically be able to do the same to Marvin Hagler and win on points, right?

For the record im aware Ruddock USED to have a good jab but he later abandoned it and fell in love with his signature punch and kept looking for the knockout. This is well documented and obvious as you watch his fights around the early 90's. Kind of like Robert Guerrero actually had good boxing IQ but later turned his brain off and became a dollar store version of Jake Lamotta slugging away with no defense.

-never said foremans performance against stewart was tier 1. He looked very bad but he narrowly got the job done. My point in bringing up larry vs Norton was that Larry just barely edged it on the scorecards but nobody takes it away from him because he showed tons of heart and stuck to his game plan in an excellent performance and for being an "all time great"--the same logic you find irritating. Well lets flip it around, if Larry didnt rack up a large number of title defenses and lets say he lost the belt in his next fight, would people still regard his wim over Norton as fair, clear cut and deserving? I Highly doubt it.

-as for the last part, there would be little incentive for Foreman to fight someone like Frank Bruno unless he wanted to build hype by fighting an opponent Tyson also fought; or by going to the UK for a high payday. Neither of those make sense unless he has a sure shot at the title while Tyson is champion or Bruno has looked good in his recent fights (more money).

As for him not wishing to face Bruno from a h2h perspective, what would Foreman be worried about? A big oafish slugger with no head movement who isnt great at taking punches and gasses mid-late rounds? Thats like the perfect opponent for a guy like Foreman, he cant miss his target and he has the power to take him out.

Im wondering if Choklab is like Michael Moore's cousin or something and he lost money betting on him. The level of obsession is very unhealthy and beyond normal.

Big George would have knocked Tyson out inside 2 rounds, it would have been a reverse of his Berbick massacre.

The Cooney fight was Jan 1990 if memory serves, and Tyson lost a month later against Buster. So it wasn't really spoken about much then. They did co-feature when George beat Adilson, but it still didn't seem like a viable fight back then.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I don't remember this. Tyson was still (I think?) in prison when Foreman beat Moorer, wasn't he?

Yeah, the window for any sort of ducking seems narrow indeed. George wasn't much of a viable contender when Tyson held the crown and I don't think he was very interested in facing Tyson when he didn't have it. When Tyson got out of prison George was on the way to losing his belts and Mike only briefly held the WBC and then the WBA, so the situation was kind of similar then.

This is exactly how I see it.

There was only a very small window of opportunity.

Things may have been different if Mike hadn't have gone to jail for those three years.

    https://www.boxing247.com/boxing-news/george-foreman-mike-tyson/59645/amp

This article makes it clear the fight was discussed quite a bit around the time of the Rodriguez fight, then again after George won the title. Obviously Mike cant fight while in prison, but the implication was that it was talked about close to his release and after his release but itnjust didnt materialize.

The way the article is written also strongly suggest it was team Tyson who kept turning it down. George has consistently maintained that he's "not sure why" it didn't happen or flat out stated Tyson ducked him for several years. I find it interesting Foreman often flip flops or overly praises certain fighters but on this subject he remains consistent.
