His move up to 168 tarnished him, at 5'9" with his style he was poorly suited to fighting rangey 6'1" 6'2" 168lbr's

At 160 though he was a bit of a beast. Massive power, a very good counter puncher, durable, tough and physically strong.

How would he have done vs the 160 crop of today?

Him and ggg would have been fun
    Abraham really wrecked dirrell
Dirrell must have wished he'd have stayed at 160 though

    One dimensional plodder

He made Froch look like Ray Leonard in their fight.

An open goal for any young 168er, look how even Eubank Jr shut him out.

Tough as they come but a very poor style for moving up the divisions. Nowhere near elite at Supermid

As basic as they come but tough as old boots.
Couldn't cope at SM but even so made a fair fist of it and even now years past his best can give people a fight. He was the favorite to win the Froch fight and then got beaten up but he was one of those guys who was hard to beat. Didn't waste much energy sold and tough defensive style and then good power when he opened up. Probably should have lost Miranda back in the day.

    Good fighter

The Froch fight was one of the most one-sided I've ever seen.

Pretty sure I had it 120-108 with no rounds even in doubt

Tough as nails, good reach and big punchingpower at 160, but at modern day 168 his size and reach were subpar and it showed.
His biggest win at 168 was against Taylor who came from 160 too, not just knocking him clean out but actually outboxing him, showing that at 160 he was a real force.
Would the first Miranda fight have been stopped with that horrendous jaw if it had been overseas? Probably. But it didn't and he still clearly outboxed the Columbian, putting the nail in his coffin in the rematch by stopping him early.

The smurf was quite good and never lost at 160, although I wouldn't have favored him in any way over the likes of Golovkin, Pavlik, Alvarez, Jacobs and even a prime Taylor would probably have resulted in a close decision loss.

Very good MW, but bang average SMW.

I'm gutted the AA v Pavlik fight never happened when they were both MW champions and undefeated. Would have been brutal.

A little one dimensional but had very good power at 160. Had some grit too. Wouldn't back him against the top MW fighters we have now though

yep sounds about right, Froch schooled him. Before the fight people were thinking it was going to be close one and Abraham would probably knick it on the cards

Probably the greatest German fighter that ever lived. Once he started mixing it up against American competition though he was a bit exposed.

I had tickets to the Dirrel fight at Agua Calientie casino, but it got delayed for some reason or other so Vic Darchinian against some south American fighter became the headliner.

Right now, prime AA would do great with the current 160lb fighters, I think Canelo would be to skilled but its still a hard fight, GGG's old, its a war, AA could beat this GGG, who else is there ? Jacobs has moved up, BJS looks to have too, Derev is a good fighter, Andrade and one or two other others, Charlo etc get eaten up by him ! He might be no2 if he was about now imo

Good at MW because he was built like a tank (sturdy, power, chin, stamina, durabillity), all of those physical advantages completely disappeared at SMW.

I can't remember who said it but they said the jump from MW to SMW is probably the most precarious weight class change in all of boxing.

AA would have trouble w/ Canelo and 3G, but I think he clearly beats:
    Andrade
    Jermall Charlo
    SD

His best weight was 160. He had some success at 168, but mainly versus more limited, or lesser, opp. But to beat him via decision, you had to bank the first 3 rounds, which he typically took off.
