"Boxers" was the series. I had them all on VHS and now I've got them on DVD. I used to wait for those tapes to come though the door every couple of weeks!!!
I said as much the other week, I agree strongly with this. Back to the Mexican, I also scored the Arguello fight to Ramirez.

Coming up from 130 and doing THAT to Ramirez? I can't think of a better showing from Camacho. Maybe KOing Limon ??

Oh, he was blindingly fast there. But I loved his footwork against Ramirez, Camacho was only in his early 20s and really made it look easy. But Rosario made him lose his nerve somewhat :hey
Yeah mate, I was gutted at the time. If you watch Camacho before Chapo and then the next fight against (I think) Boza Edwards you can see a massive difference in how he fought. Real shame IMHO. The surprising thing was how he took his lumps when he had to in his later career against the likes of JCC, Oscar and Trinidad. The guy was a real tough nut when he needed to be.
He was, and sounds odd, but do you think he cared about his looks a bit too much? And as he got older he wasn't as arsed? Or that the shellacking Rosario gave him convinced him he didn't want another anytime soon?
The "looks" thing was a theory at the time but doesn't really tie in with the grief he took in later fights. My take on it was that Rosario scared him and he realized he was good enough to win fights staying on the back foot and popping out the right jab. So thats what he did. He had the same problem as Mayweather had a few years back in that people were looking for a superstar, saw a charismatic fighter with talent but who wasn't really providing the excitement and getting opponents out of there. The public likes a bit of "devil" in their fighters.
Funny thing is Flea that, although looking back the 1980s were a great time in boxing, when Camacho was fighting Rosario in 1985 people were crying out for a new star and people were moaning about the state of the sport (I remember a "What now???" type headline in a boxing mag). Arguello had gone, Leonard had retired, Hagler was fighting once a year, Tyson hadn't yet swept out the dire HW division. It was only really Don Curry and Camacho that people were talking about. So I guess looking back Camacho was just happy to keep winning and collecting what was great money for a lightweight.
