Although Wilder’s very poor technically, he’s always dangerous for 12 rounds.

Mike was finished at the highest level.

Both are/were pretty sloppy and vulnerable. He’d have beaten at least one of two.

    Not in my opinion.

    He was done.

He only took the fight because he had to for financial reasons.

He looked awful against Botha and Neilson and all those guys.

He looked like the shell of the guy that Evander beat.

If Lennox hadn’t have fought Mike, his resume or ranking wouldn’t be any different today.

The Vitali win cemented his legacy. It’s just a shame that we didn’t have a rematch, and that the first fight didn’t play out differently, where it wasn’t stopped on cuts.

Nah, don't see it that way at all, his resume would be down one #2 contender (I think). It just doesn't matter what your personal opinion was on how far he'd slipped. Beating someone in the top five always matters some, it's just true.

Plus Mike looked frightening until he swallowed those two big uppercuts, and he won the first round regardless of those.

I'd compare it to Marciano beating Louis. Very clearly a diminished fighter, but still dangerous for a short spell and good enough to beat some guys from the ten and almost every fringe guy he would have run across.

I think Rahman would have had a decent chance, but I think Dillian would have had a great chance.

I bought all the PPV’s like most of us did, because I love the sport so much and I grew up watching Mike. It was weird, it felt like I had to watch his fights. But I can remember cringing watching the Neilson fight. That didn’t even resemble the version of Mike that Evander had beaten, let alone the prime versions.

I can give credit for Lennox’s professionalism and his longevity. And I’d have given him credit if he’d have beaten the versions of Mike who Evander beat. But I can’t give him credit for beating Mike in 2002. Although it was one of the biggest fights in the history of the sport, it was just a nothing win to me. We have to remember that shortly afterwards, he got beaten by 2 European level HW’s. He was absolutely done.

This is a little more reasonable. I mean he certainly wasn't going to beat Ali or Bowe any more than he was going to beat Lewis.

But he certainly could have beaten Fres Oquendo or Jameel McCline.

    I don’t agree.

Had he not have taken the Lewis fight, I’d still have had Danny Williams beating him anywhere near that time.

    He wasn’t even training properly,

Like I said, I’d still have Williams beating him.

The idea was floating around, that if only Tyson dedicated himself to boxing 24/7, he would be great again.

When he fought somebody like Danny Williams, his press handlers only had to put out a rumor that he was hitting the gym, and suddenly the fight would make money.

After Tyson lost to Danny Williams, a lot of people picked Williams to beat Vitally Klitschko (I mean people who should have known better), purely because he had beaten Tyson!

That is how long Tyson's shadow loomed!

When Lewis retired, people thought that he had a real chance against guys like Ruiz!

You would have been the only one who did at the time!

That's ok, opinions are fine - the point is guy on the internet > boxing world in 2002.

It's just the way it is. Lewis smashed the #2 contender to the world's heavyweight title to pieces. That matters.

Furthermore, I'd have taken Mike Tyson to beat Danny Williams around that time, anytime Tyson doesn't blow out his knee during the fight.

There’s always casuals and fans who aren’t knowledgeable.

    It’s probably the:

‘A prime Mike would have beaten Godzilla’ brigade.

Nobody who I respect ever said anything like that.

We knew watching him fight Brian Neilson that he was done.

We saw Evander knock him out 6 years earlier.

Well after the Etienne knock out, people did think he’d beat a Euro level HW.

    I’ll give you that.

We can now look back with hindsight.

That’s a fair point. But on a serious note, I honestly think that Williams could have beaten the version of Mike who lost to Lennox and who beat Etienne.

    Okay.

    I respect your opinion.

    I lived through the era.

It was absolutely huge. But for me, it does nothing for Lennox’s resume.

To me, it’s like Amir Khan beating MAB.

Does anyone have the full broadcast (including all undercards) of the George Foreman VS Michael Moorer fight?
