Don't confuse the gush you hear from SKY and BT Sport pundits and members of their commentary teams or casuals regarding British fighters, especially up and coming prospects, and the opinions of real/hardcore British fans. Hardcore British fans are actually very harsh on British fighters, sometimes too harsh, whereas the former are the complete opposite and I can understand why that rubs some up the wrong way albeit it's not like we don't see that over in the US too.

Even our best fighters and biggest stars are heavily criticized over on the British forum and most of the posters over there are pretty level-headed and are quick to call out BS wherever they see it.

Just so you know I wasn't taking BS about Heffron being highly regarded by many over here

Like I said, a lot of people picked him to beat Williams and trainers who've worked with him and fighters who'd seen him up close and personal in the amateurs, in the gym, or who had shared a ring with him spoke highly of him and his punching power.

'Mark Heffron is the second Irish fighter to be selected for the proposed May 5 Irish Middleweight Prizefighter, according to manager Gary Hyde.

The 20 year old who is unbeaten in five contests joins Joe Rea as a fighter claiming to a cert for the show set for Belfast in the summer.

“Mark ‘Kid Dynamite’ Heffron promises to put some explosive performances when he fights on the May 5th Irish Middleweight Prizefighter in Belfast. Kid Dynamite who is highly touted by Freddie Roach to become one of boxing’s brightest stars will also fight on March 16th at the FW Wembley show,” Hyde revealed today.'

'When Mark was 17 he sparred World Champion Amir Khan at the Wildcard in LA and after the spar Freddie Roach was so impressed with Mark's aggressive style and power that he encouraged me to sign him immediately touting him as one of the best young fighters he has seen'.

We've all heard the hype about Heffron giving Khan a going over back in the day . We have heard Freddie Roach saying he's an unbelievable talent and Joe Gallagher said he's one of the best talents he's ever worked with.

Watched a Gallagher interview a while back and he said mark was one of the most talented fighter he's trained

I spoke to a lad a few years ago at the Fish Eyes Magnificent 7 show in Birmingham who had sparred the two Heffron boys and he was saying how highly he rated Mark, also said he was a huge puncher!

Manager-coach Kevin Maree, who has previously been involved with champions such as Michael Gomez, Kenny Anderson, Carl Frampton and Luke Blackledge, adds:

‘If Mark Heffron doesn’t win a world title I’ll jack boxing in.

‘Mark’s had a really frustrating career. Not having a British licence initially slowed his career up but he’s been far more active this last year and, now he’s signed to Frank Warren, doors are going to open.

‘Early on, we had plenty of falls out but lately he’s really matured and he’s ready to go now. Finally, he really wants it.

‘Mark carries freakish power. In the gym, he puts top quality operators to sleep wearing 16oz gloves. He’s got this unbelievable balance which enables him to bomb you out with either hand and from any position.

“I had between 75 and 80 amateur fights and only lost six or seven. I won the (national )schoolboys title the first year I was eligible and also won the national CYPs.

“I boxed for England a good few times and when I was just 14, I got a bronze at the (2006)European Schoolboys in the Ukraine. A few years after that, I made the final of the (2009)European Juniors but lost to a Russian (Alexander Besputin) over in Poland.'

Not my words but this is the kind of stuff I was hearing about Heffron. But to be fair to him he did last into the 10th against the savage punching Williams and he didn't hit the canvas so he must be pretty tough. If Riakporhe's (who is being given the big push by SKY) handlers stuck him in with someone of Williams calibre who possessed that kind of savage power the fight wouldn't last 2 rounds.

Looks the goods, definitely brings problems for quite a number of people at MW.
Yet somehow I suspect his career won’t be too long. He’s 23, already has had serious hand injury and it won’t go away even after surgeries.
Few unlucky punches or an opponent who packs an iron chin and he’ll smash his knuckle to **** again.

Good style to watch. Second Liam Smith fight a bit worrying though, seemed to lack determination which is odd in a rematch like that. Also was getting worn down in the first fight a little, meaning if a pressure fighter can take his power could be a problem. I'd hate to see someone like Eubank Jr weather a storm and overwhelm him, that would be very demoralising.
