Picked this up today for $27 from JB, I'm assuming its the recent doco that had a limited theatrical release. 83 minutes long and comes with four full fights; vs Fighting Harada 26/2/68 vs Takao Sakurai 2/7/68 vs Chuchu Castillo 6/12/68 vs Vincente Garcia 1/11/69 that comes in at another 3 hours worth. Good value and comes in a nicely designed box and has a little booklet with pics and memoribillia. As much as I detest buying new DVDs this is well worth the money, do yourself a favour etc... Buy it!
Will definitely be buying this one. Lionel is one of my favourite Aussie boxers, some good fights on there too including his two best wins against Harada and Castillo.
Its actually comes with the 4 complete fights??? Good quality???? Colour Rose/Harada??? Good quality Castillo?? If the quality is there, its a bargain. Cheers mate, pls let me know what the quality is like..
Will do, says on the cover that they're the full fights but havn't had a chance to watch it yet, will whack it on later tonight and let you know.
Spewing, taped the SBS one on IQ tonight and just checked it to be greeted by 'FAILED'. Oh well, knowing SBS it will be on again soon enough.
Mate, just been to JB today. Picked up the Lionel DVD.... Will burn the 2 DVDs and post them to you, if you want. Also picked up the DVD form of The Conquest.. Jeff Harding vs Andries, hoping the dvd version might have background/audience noise. After watching it again, it really reminds me of the silence Harding suffered throughout his career. **** me dead, the guy was tough as nails, and raw as fresh meat. Its a sad, sad thing that Harding isnt on the pedastols af Fammo, Carruthers, Rose and several more. He is our toughest fighter in the purest sense... and a tragedy at the same time.
Cheers mate, but already have all those, only realised today that last nights doco is the one I've just bought. Yeah, watched Conquest last week, agree with all you have to say, it really is one of the greatest forgotten moments of Australian sports history. Its an interesting little time capsule, with Fenech, Tyson, King & Donald Trump all ringside in happier days. I think DaSweetScience put up a shortened version of the chapter from Robert Dranes book a few weeks ago and after reading that and then the book knew I had to hunt down a copy. He really worked Andries body all the way through, incredible effort.
Mate i loved the Doco. And Rose made me proud to be an Aussie. Really quality guy with Great moments and not so Great moments but it wasnt that that made me think this guy is what fighters should be like it was how much of a different bloke he is compared to say Mundine. He reminds me of what being Australian is all about how you get knocked down and you get back up. His life was truely full of highs and downs but what makes him unique to me he was always the same. Lionel im giving it a 10/10 as a Doco. So if any other Aussies read this or even Indigenous Aussies read this post they should be proud of Rose. Im going to go out of my way now to get a hold of Lionel Memorbilia
Good post Boppa, Lionel hasnt always had things go his way but he seems to be a very geniune bloke and was one hell of a boxer. Certainly one of my favourite Aussie boxers ever.
Why do that when you theres much better Kronk endorsed memorabilia already being paraded around in our faces? An apology on behalf of the majority (not me, I was always a true believer) might be required though.
