Lack of widespread boxing on terrestrial TV, or on cable in everywhere but the USA, for that matter.

    1. PPV: Duh.

    2. Lack of universal oversight and rule-making: boxing should be like any other major sport; the rules and conditions shouldn't vary from town to town, fight to fight. This would be a big step toward restoring sports' fans faith in the legitimacy of the sport.

    3. Corruption (see reason number 2).

    4. The most idiotic business model known to man: profit hugely from three ppv fights a year; neglect the rest of the sport and its fighters (see reason number 1).

    5. Short term thinking, promoters willing to crash the sport on the rocks in order to maximize profits in the immediate term (see all of the above).

And when Floyd vs Pac happens and boxing suddenly gets media coverage it hasn't seen in decades..

    Yeah, that makes sense.

How would the fighters get paid when ESPN only pays the promoters $25,000?

    - Fighters' huge egos demanding too much of the total purse which sometimes aborts fights
    - Promoters keeping their fighters away from the best available opponents to avoid a L on their record
    - Fighters boxing once or twice a year
    - Ridiculous PPV price

For reals.. w/o catchweights some of the best fighters wouldnt fight each other. But the number one thing thats killing boxing is boring fights/fighters. Apparently boxing cant "live" off "hardcore" fans alone.

4 sanctioning bodies (1 of which doesn't require mandatory defense) that each have 1000 belts.

The ability to invent a new championship out of this air.

Over priced PPV, with garbage undercards.

Can't happen like that. The thought of having only one or two heavyweight (or any weight class for that matter) championship bouts per year is depressing. If the person who is champion would fight 4 - 6 times a year maybe, but we all know that will never happen anymore.
