I would not put money on Liston knocking out Chuvalo in 1970 or any other year. I dont think any of the guys who went the distance with Liston had a better chin than Chuvalo. I'm sure most of them were not as big. Neal Welch Johnny Summerlin x2 Marty Marshall x2 Burt whitehurst x2 Billy Joiner Ponce deleon Stanley Hawlett Why is Chuvalo getting knocked out by Liston when those guys did not?
i guarantee you that a few guys would pick 1990 liston over chuvalo (if he was alive in 1990). this forum is infected of boring biased and nostalgic guys
Listen here sonny. I respect what your saying, about the 27 rounds, but theres' no need to start correcting his spilling and grammer. He nos wat he did. Close win for Listen on the cards.
In the second Liston fight Whitehurst was outside the ring ,where he had been punched ,trying to get back in when the bell rang saving him from a ko.Liston won 9 rounds out of ten against Marshall in their final fight, Marshall shared the first, he was a defensive specialist. Summerlin was 24 fight ranked contender when Liston beat him,Liston was having his 6th fight. Deleon also went the distance with Mike DeJohn and Cleveland Williams.Deleon was a veteran of 39 fights, Liston just one. Howlett had just 5 fights won the first 4, lost to Liston and retired he was never stopped.Welch had 23 fights under his belt,Liston 8. You don't see a scenario where Liston might stop Chuvalo as Foreman and Frazier did?
Liston do you want know a secret.if gorgeous George can avoid getting cut by listons pole like jab he can outwork sonny late as he runs out of steam.the earlier versions of sonny would cut George to ribbons and stop him.
I think the injury Chuvalo suffered against Frazier was an exception not the rule in that kind of fight. So I dont see Liston of 1970 replicating it. I think that Foreman when he fought Chuvalo was at the opposite end of his career that Sonny was around the 1970 mark. It was no fluke because Foreman was the future of heavyweight boxing back then but Maybe It's also the kind of thing that could only happen at the end of Chuvalos own career? Chuvalo and Sonny were the same generation, I dont see Sonny having the kind of youth edge young guns like Frazier and Foreman had against the Canadian anvil. Sonny wins, but it's not by KO.
I know. Imagine Foreman stopping Chuvalo. He couldn't even stop Gregorio Peralta or Levi Forte for God's sake.
