liston vs shavers...

Could be Cleveland Williams all over again. Earnie gets Sonny's attention with that power of his (possibly even flooring Liston), then pays for it by waking Sonny up.

The alternative is that Liston just keeps him at bay, jabbing Shavers to bits.

Sonny showed twice against the Big Cat that he could rebound from a hammering, come back out of a corner and get the job done. Earnie was a front runner who didn't respond to punishment by coming back harder, and only got off the deck to prevail against Jeff Sims (who ironically was being compared to Liston at the time Shavers stopped him).

 

Reasonable. Shavers had underrated hand speed, but not the kind of speed Cleveland had. More likely, Earnie wakes up Liston with one or two bombs. I think Shavers would have a chance to unload something, but not likely an opportunity to follow up.
