Anyway, I'm sure I read somewhere that Hearn spoke to DeGale about Golovkin, but DeGale said that GGG isn't on his radar. He wants to unify SMW and then move up to LHW. Did anyone else see this or did I dream it?

There's no stopping this moron because no matter who GGG is fighting, there is always somebody he isn't. If Golovkin fought Ward, Lara, Rodriguez and Degale in a 4 on one steel cage match I swear Sh!tmaster would be posting threads about how Gennady is ducking Kovalev 😳

Well we don't know for sure because boxing politics and business is not transparent. However, we can speculate. I believe GGG v Eubank was Golovkin and Hearn's first option with Brook as a back up. When Eubank Sr bottled it, Brook got the call.

I don't think DeGale would have been legitimately considered because Golovkin, as I am lead to believe, has a date set with HBO 9 weeks from Brook being offered the fight and he has been given the run around before from Eubank and other opponents so a quick resolution would always be good from Golovkin's point of view. Because of this, the Brook fight was more viable than the DeGale fight for two main reasons. 1) Brook could just be offered the same contract as Eubank. DeGale could not, however, as he isn't as big in the UK as Brook. With the money being offered to GGG and Eubank/Brook, if this was offered to DeGale there is a chance that Hearn doesn't get a decent return.

2) A Brook fight is easier to make and win than a DeGale fight. Because of what I said above, New contracts, and therefore negotiations, would need to take place between GGG and degale, wasting even more time and possibly cutting into training camp time (as there was only 9 weeks to the HBO date). Also, moving up to SMW to fight DeGale for, in all likelyhood, less money, is less appealing than dragging Brook up to MW for more money.

 

I highly doubt Golovkin is sacred of DeGale. I just think out of the two, his people chose the quicker and easier option.
