Yeah, 25 miles is from the realms of pure fiction. I'm inclined to think the poster was honestly mistaken about that, rather than being deliberatley untruthful.

Walking was something Marciano did constantly, and he placed great emphasis on it. It was probably of greater benefit to him than his 'legendary' miles on the road. (Which I think, was closer to 5 miles a day when in training.)

    Either

    a) You are insanely fit

    or

    b) You have exaggerated the amount of miles/time you did it in

Marciano whose running regime was legendary had figures in this area (about 100 miles a week in the final weeks leading up to a fight) and he was one of the most dedicated fitness freaks the world has ever known. If you really do that then mad props man.

He probably meant kilometers which would be accurate, and you're right peope hear Rocky did 15 miles a day and that he ran everyday even christmas morning but he'd work up to 15 over the course of being in camp for several months and usually only did it with 3-4 weeks till the fight. Like you said he generally did around 5 to 7 miles.

I imagine that if championship fights went back to the 15 rd limit then we'd see a return to longer distance running. At any rate, if you read many of the old time training regimens from the ATG's you'll see that they also incorporated interval training as well as distance running in thier preparation for a bout. Many of them would divide thier runs into sprinting sessions (dempsey, Jeffries, Fitzsimmons), or shadow boxed while they ran,as if there was an imaginary opponent in front of them(Robinson,Ali etc..). A boxer fights on his feet after all so running can be very beneficial as far as carryover into the ring. If Vlad had to fight a 15-20 round fight, you'd probably see less swimming and more running. Especially if he was fighting the likes of Ali, Frazier,Holmes,Louis,Dempsey etc..Men who pounded the pavement,or lonely mountain trails in preparation for a big fight.

    Yes I realy do that.

As others have said though, I am not a boxer who does this merely as one copmponent of his training regime.

I know Hopkins was known for his almost obsessive running as a MW. Anyone got any figures on how much he used to run?
