Sorry if this thread is ******ed, but I'm reading that the Murray vs. Buckland fight is for the EBU and British title and if Murray wins he gets the Lonsdale Belt outright. I was under the impression that in order to win the Lonsdale Belt outright you need to defend it three times? Therefore, does the fight against Thaxton or Lawton count as a British defence? or is Murray talking about defending the British title once more after Buckland?
Yeah I think the fight against Thaxton counted towards Murray's British title 'defences' even though it was for the vacant belt. Same thing for Thaxton, who would have held the title outright if he were to have won against Murray :good
To win the Lonsdale outright you need 4 wins in total. The most obvious way to achieve this is by winning the title and defending three times (for some reason a draw does not count as a successful defence), but it is possible to win the belt outright without ever having to defend the belt (i.e winning the belt on four separate occasions).
That's only one way of winning the belt outright. You need four wins in total. The wins do not have to be sequential.
As he didn't make weight for the Lawton fight, that wouldn't have counted as the belt wasn't on the line for him

Seen Buckland fight once in Barnsley. He looked very good that night and may prove an hard fight for Murray.
buckland is a very busy agresive fighter with a lot of heart, if he's alowed to get close for long periods murray could get outworked though not hurt as buckland does'nt punch, i see a very good fight were buckland goes out with honour in 9 or 10 rounds.
God, I hope you get banned again. John Murray's a good guy. He raises his game for the best opposition he's faced. I'd rather watch him fight than Khan, for example.
Although I accept now he needs to be stepped up in class, surely by fighting for the European title is doing that? With respect to who he fought previously, he did struggle badly against Al-Hamidi, but Al-Hamidi is renowned for being an awkward journeyman. But yes Murray should have done better and could have easily been award the Loss for that fight But with respect to the other domestic opponents he has beaten and outclassed, he fought Maeger who was an ex-British champion, McAllister who i think held some sort of WBU crap title, then Lawton who was the English title holder, then Thaxton who was an ex-European and ex-British I don't think Murray is world class but surely he has taken the appropriate route of fighting all domestic opponents available (with the exception of Khan, but that was never going to happen) in fighting previous domestic champions and gradually stepping up in class? Just to notify you im not even that big a fan of Murray either!
