Oscar give him a career high offer. Winky turned it down wanting more.

Watching boxing at the time and boxing web sites near 20 years ago. But a quick internet search (and get used to doing this yourslef BTW)
    -----------------
*******.com: There was some talk a few months back, regarding Oscar De La Hoya having interest in staging a fight with you. Were there any serious discussions to make the fight or was this something Oscar was putting out there to test the fans' interest in the fight?

Winky Wright: A while back, after I beat Tito (Trinidad). Oscar came up and said that he would fight us. Somebody made a proposal from his camp. They gave us the proposal and we felt that the proposal was not good enough. We turned it down.
    -----------------------
    From another source:
As for Shaw last month turning down $6-million (plus $6 per pay-per-view buy above 600,000 homes) to fight Oscar De La Hoya ?

"He offers everyone else $10, 15-million," Wright said, referring to the $10-million Felix Trinidad got for beating De La Hoya in 1999. "I ain't doing it."
    -------------------------
And the AI Overview from Google:

Winky Wright turned down a $6 million offer (plus pay-per-view incentives) from Oscar De La Hoya around 2005-2006, as he reportedly felt the offer did not match the high earnings De La Hoya was providing to other fighters. Wright, seeking a 50-50 split, rejected the fight, missing out on a potential career-defining matchup.
Key details regarding the rejected offer:
    • The Offer: Following his win over Trinidad, De La Hoya offered Wright $6 million plus $6 per PPV buy over 600,000, according to Wikipedia.
    • Reasons for Refusal: Wright believed he was undervalued, stating, "He offers everyone else $10, 15 million...".

If true, another poor decision by Winky and his team.

    Hello everyone.

I just wanted to follow up in this thread and also say thank you to everyone who’s been posting and sharing their thoughts about Ronald “Winky” Wright. Honestly, when I came back and saw how many people here truly understand and appreciate his boxing, I was genuinely impressed.

Just to update you: I’ve managed to find all the Winky Wright fight footage I was looking for from a private collector, so the search is now complete.

Since I’m writing anyway, I’d like to share a bit of news. I’m currently working on a documentary film about Ronald Winky Wright — a serious, in-depth project focusing on his style, his career, his key fights, and, most importantly, his place in boxing history. To be honest, I’ve rarely come across truly high-quality and thoughtful material about Winky, and I think that’s an unfair oversight. I’m hoping to help correct that.

It’s great to see that such a “quiet genius” still has a passionate and knowledgeable fan base. I truly believe Winky deserves far more recognition than he ever received during his time in the ring.

Thanks to everyone for keeping this discussion alive and for the love of boxing.

Bellew vs Cleverly 2, Floyd vs Mcgregor, Haye vs Audley Harrison I think were worse but yeah watching Hopkins overreact to a rabbit punch and Roy just posing was terrible.

Mayweather vs. McGregor? It seems to me that you’re extremely biased. It was a decent fight — without intrigue, of course, but still not a bad one.

I’ve seen fights far worse than that, especially the bouts of the Klinchko brothers — Wladimir in particular. That was pure second-hand embarrassment. I never perceived them as real boxers.

Also, I haven’t seen fights worse than the boxing night this year with Canelo vs. Skull. It was sheer misery. And also the Devin Haney vs. Ramirez fight — there was barely any boxing at all.

Of course, there are boring fights, there are dirty fights. Bernard Hopkins and Andre Ward — they are masters of such bouts, but they are first-class boxers and knew exactly when to do it.

But the cripple Wladimir Klinchko? Every fight is the same — jab, clinch, hugging, leaning, lowering the opponent toward the trunks, some kind of… gay nonsense, pardon my French. The worst boxer of all time and people.
