Canelo's just a kid who's fought a bunch of faded gatekeepers or fringe contenders. Seriously, Cintron, Hatton, Rhodes, Ndou, Gomez....nowt special.
Looks very in control and composed, nothing to the level of Floyd though. Size really, he’s 3 divisions bigger than Guerrero. As much as anything it would be a bigger event.
I'm not on the Canelo bandwagan just yet. He still have obvious weaknesses and hasnt really stepped up in class yet. But I think his natural size makes it more of a test than a Robbie G. I'd much prefer cotto
Yeah, he's got decent pop, but not anything Floyd's defence would be too concerned about. But bar Martinez, I agree he's the most threatening opponent available. Which is pretty sad.
From a business standpoint (Floyds main concern) then Canelo > Guerrero. Arum did say yesterday though that he couldnt see Canelo facing Floyd because the Ginger one would be asking for too much money whereas the Ghost can be gotten on the cheap.
Canelo would be able to command a fair purse for that particular weekend, plus down the line there's an inevitable showdown with Chavez jr. It'll take a big offer to tempt them to part with that potentially huge payday with a possible KO loss.... it would take some building back up. It's just frustrating that every time there's a potentially good fight between two up and comers that some prat decides to give it the ''let's wait until they're 32 weight world champions first''. ****.... in the time some of these fights get made Leonard fought Benitez, Duran x2 and Hearns, Hearns fought Cuevas, Benitez and Leonard etc etc. Just get it done already.
Granted, but if he pulled off the upset and beat floyd surely that would be the making of his career where he becomes a big time ppv draw (boxings posterboy if you will). Yes im aware people aren't sold on him or have their own reservations, but thats boxing. Its more the intrigue for me personally, especially at 154, i'd consider him very capable. I know most would prefer Pac / Martinez fights, but i think the Alvarez fight would be a very good alternative (add Cotto to that too).
Saul isn't going to beat Floyd. He's a ****ing prospect! Struggling with Gomez sums up where he us right now.
Thing is Luke, Ray is actually a good example, but he was well seasoned before 30 fights!!! The competition just isn't there, and the business works in a way that there aren't many fighters out there at the top, top level. Therefore, both Manny and Floyd have a share of sub-standard potential contenders to choose from. Canelo, at the stage he's at, is nowhere near 'Elite' level IMO. He lacks the next step to make that transgression, he either steps it rift up or keeps fighting sub-par 'contenders'. Cintron was SHITE!
With eight (or ten) weight classes most of the sport's ills in that respect would be solved at a stroke. The daft thing is that everyone (by this I mean TV, top fighters, alphabets) would make more money, because there'd be less money going to paper champions or undeserving contenders - the paper champions would be the contenders..... the best fighters would make the best money. Most contenders these days would be good-ish journeymen in a ten weight class system, even allowing for four ''titles''. Fans get value for money and we don't get ''joke champions'' being paid $1m+ per fight to face bums.
It's on the scene that a decision will be made by Friday and Guerrero is the favourite. Canelo is the only other option.
Luke :bowdown You know how I feel on the subject. Too many journeyman calibre fighters labelled 'contenders'. RICO: Ishypedia is the source, that should be enough :deal
